    Hi All,

I'm going to be in Berlin for 3/4 days in the beginning of may. I'm wondering if there are any good pubs/bars/breweries in the city that I should make a point of visiting. Don't necessarily need anything fancy/rare but some fresh local brews would be awesome to try. Thanks.

I'll be there in mid-May! Super excited. Berlin is an awesome city and I'm sure you'll enjoy it regardless.

But to answer your question, the Hackesher Markt, which is in the tourist area and not far from the Museum Island, has a Weihenstephaner restaurant with all of their beers on tap except for the Korbinian and the Vitus, which are in bottles. The food is decent, too. There are other threads here which you can search through for some other good recommendations, although honestly the important thing is that you'll be in Berlin. Everything else is gravy. :sunglasses:

Hackesher Markt is uber tourist but you can't go wrong with Weihenstephaner!

The city centre brew pubs are a tad average in general in my opinion, just knocking out 2 or 3 average beers from the common styles . . . think Mitte, Lemke, Georgebrau

I get the impression that due to the tourist trade they don't need to go that extra mile to make 'great beer' and the service has been pretty crap whenever I've been to these places

The Brew pubs slightly out of the centre have always been better (even Lindenbrau), try Hops and Barley, Spaundau and Schlossplatz in Kopenick (claims to be Germanys smallest brewrery)

The brewer was in action at the copper when we visited and was happy to chat away to us

Slightly further out (20/5 mins train) Potsdam offers some good brew pubs

I think I went there. They sell the usual range of bottles for around 4.20 euro and Vitus is slightly more expensive and they are all on tap except for Vitus. And the food is good, probably better than the beer...well lets not go nuts here!

I went to the BMW cycle plant. The tour was a great experience. I own two BMW cycles and was treated with royalty when I told the tour guide of my two prize possessions. A side note, the new BMW K 1600 GT is one great bike.

Thought this had to be beer related

Couldn't resist. But it doesn't hurt to open ones horizens. Beer was what got me to Germany in the first place. Motorcycles were a fringe benefit.

I was in Berlin last year and frankly was a bit disappointed beerwise. There were a handful of brews that I hadn't seen before at home. I expected to see a lot more. My one memorable beer experience was at a truck stop before we reached Berlin. Can't recall the name but they had a Schwartzbier and a Pils which were a delight. I also ate and drank here multiple nights http://www.dicke-wirtin.de/

Dicke Wirin became our 'local' when we were in Berlin.
