Every November I begin to crave Dubbels/ BSDAs/ Quads.

I have a few faves and am always willing to try new ones but the problem is I strongly prefer the plummy/ figgy/ raisiny examples and am pretty meh about those that are mainly brown sugar/ clove and/or banana. Chimay Blue and Ommegang Abbey are the two that come closest to my ideal.

So what other examples of Belgians most taste like Plums, Dates, Raisins & Figs?

Try out some double bocks if you're into the fig type flavors.

Edit: and yes I realize bocks are a German style

The closest thing that I can think of is Westmalle Dubbel. It is an excellent beer, and one of my favorite Belgians, however, I don't know that it tastes most like plums, dates, raisins, and figs. Those dark fruit flavors definitely stand out, however, I also notice brown sugar, vanilla, banana, and a bit of tartness.

Others can probably come up with something better, but I hope that helps.

If this call for the crowd to give you suggestions doesn't bring you what you hoped for, there is a different strategy that may work. (But it does take a bit of work.)

Find a few reviewers who's tastes seem to match up with yours. By match I mean they taste the same things in a beer that you taste. Look at their reviews of examples of beer styles you crave. If they mention the flavors you want, then see about sampling that particular beer.

    Good luck in your search.

Gouden Carolous Cuvee Van de Keizer Blau. Even better with 3-4 years on it, as the dark fruit flavors become even more prminent with age.

I agree with this. I received 2 bottles as a gift last year. I drank one and loved it (I reviewed it on BA). I cellared the other one for this Christmas.

To further the double bock recommendation, try Celebrator, and try it soon!

I gotta agree with the North Coast Brother Thelonius; TONS of dark, sticky fruit flavors from what I can remember. Also, Goose Island's Pere Jacques (4pk = $11.00) has a lot of dark bready and dark fruit flavors. St. Bernardus 8 and 12 aren't at all bad either, and are priced well, though for the profile you're looking for you might prefer the 8.

Ok, going out on a limb here because it's not a Belgian Dark Ale, but if you aren't opposed to a bit of vanilla, bourbon/oak, with a rum soaked raisin/date/fig fruit flavor, then have at...Lost Abbey Angel's Share.

Again, not a belgian style ale, but I feel it fills a decent amount of your desired flavor profile.

Also, I got much of the desired dark fruit flavor you're looking for from The Bruery's Fruet (technically an Old Ale).
    YMMV
