I only had Rochefort 10 once and did not pick up any dark fruit, just Brown Sugar. Wonder if I got a bad bottle.

I thought it had a nice raison/plum taste. Also the 9 from Leffe is also pretty good and i picked up more dark fruits then what the BA Reviews suggest. Hard to find those 2 in the states though :slight_frown:

I believe Rochefort 10 is exactly the opposite of what you are looking for. My favorite BSDA that fits your criteria is La Terrible.

You could also try Avery's The Beast . . . I can't recall if I've had it again since batch 1 in '04, but I recall it having lots of dark fruit/raisin type flavors.

You know I completely forgot to look. I did peruse the Founders section and I did not see any Boltcutter.

Its German, but Aventinus weizenbock has mountains of the flavors you are looking for.

Agree with both of these. Trois Pistoles is one of my favorite Belgian Darks, and definitely has the strong fruit flavor you're looking for. As far as doppelbocks go, I had a Weihenstephaner Korbinian recently, which I thought had a huge raisin flavor.

This may not be quite what you asked for, but I remember Guinness Foreign Extra Stout has some big dark fruit if you'd like to find these flavors in a non-Belgian style.

I completely forgot about Avery's The Beast, which someone pointed out above. Fresh, it tastes like cheap booze, but with around 4 years on it (I think the one I recently had was a 2008?) it's full of sticky dates, raisins, plums, etc. +1 for this recommendation. And, from what I remember, I've seen some 2009s hanging around on the shelves relatively recently.

Already mentioned but they are so good it's worth repeating: unibrue terrible and Gouden Carolous Cuvee Van de Keizer Blau are awesome big sweet dark fruit forward beers. Keizer Blau is my favorite by far, but I drink a lot of trois pistoles because I'm cheap.

Any of the Rochefort lineup will do. I like the 8, the best, but they are all fantastic and at the top of my BDSA/Quad lists. Tons of dark fruit flavors, especially figs and dates

Westmalle Dubbel would have to be hands down my favorite non-sour non-Brett Belgian beer. I'd highly recommend it for those dark flavors you're looking for.

De Dolle Oerbier is the correct answer.

I'll put another vote in for the Westmalle Dubbel.

    Also,
    Fruet
    Avery The Reverend
    Rochefort 10
    Russian River Salvation
Brother Thelonious (although something put me off about this beer)
    Lost Abbey Judgement Day
    De Struise Pannepot (raisins)
    La Trappe Dubbel

...and the wildcard. Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout.

I agree. It seems like this beer isn't talked about often, but its one of the best Belgian's Ive ever had, and I love Belgians.
