    Hey New England!
So my girlfriend and I will be visiting Boston for the first time for a week at the end of August. We are going to Fenway on the 26th for a day game and wanted to get some ideas as to where we should go before the game for some drinks and good food. Thanks in advance from San Francisco!

What kind of places are you looking for? If you want the best tap lists it might be worth a short trip on the B Line to Allston to try Sunset Grill and Tap (http://www.allstonsfinest.com/allstonsfinest/sunsetgrillandtap/sunsetgrill&tap.swf) or Deep Ellum (http://www.deepellum-boston.com/).

If you want to stay closer to Fenway, Boston Beer Works is a decent choice. Eastern Standard is also very good, but more upscale and pricey.

Keep in mind that the Fenway-area restaurants will be PACKED on game days, so it'd pay to get there early or make a reservation if you can.

For some really good food near Fenway I highly recommend Island Creek Oyster bar. Sit at the
Bar and grab a pint of the Icob pilsner made for them by High and Mighty and some raw oysters. Their clam chowder is also excellent. The place is pricey for sure but I feel that you pay for their great food and service.

Also, lower depths has a good tap list and dollar hot dogs.

    Both super close to Fenway.

You could check out Eastern Standard, which is within walking distance. http://easternstandardboston.com/ They have a good beer list, plus have Heady Topper available. The bar manager goes up one a week and grabs a case, it's a little pricey but it would be a nice treat while on the east coast.

cambridge brewing company is the must-hit beer destination in boston.

lots of great bars (deep ellum, lord hobo, etc), but CBC is the one that rises above "great tap list" to "world class beer you can't get anywhere else."

I also recommend going to CBC as a cant miss place especially to sit outside and have a beer. I wouldn't necessarily recommend going before a sox game though since you'd have to take the T to get to the game from the brewpub.

I believe the hot dogs at Lower Depths are Fenway Franks by Kayem so you could get them for a dollar with some good local beer and save yourself 4 bucks since those same hot dogs are 5 at the game.

Another place with a good beer list nearby is Bukowskis. Make sure when you look up directions that your looking at the location in Boston, not the one in Cambridge.

And lastly Woodys tap and grill is a pretty good place for beer and wood oven pizzas.

Hope you enjoy! Make sure you hit up Lord Hobo, Cambridge Brewing Co, Deep Ellum, and The Public House. All are T accessible and probably offer the best draft lists in the area. Plus you'd get to experience Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline

Another stop right by Fenway is the recently opened Yardhouse. Their Chalkboard Series consists of 5 rotating taps that are always a decent selection. Last time I was there they had Long Trail Double White and DFH 120 on tap.

    +1 CBC
    +1 The Public House
+1 Island Creek (Great Oyster Bar)

I'd say the must hits are, first, Cambridge Brewing Company. Then, in no particular order: Publick House, Lord Hobo and Deep Ellum. Lord Hobo, the CBC and Atwood's (solid, largely local tap list with a great patio) are all very close to each other--about 5 minute walk between each.

The CBC is one of my favorite places, and one reason why I'm so glad to live in Cambridge. It's easily one of the best brewpubs in New England, and the beer is always wonderful, clean and crisp, and ranges between barrel-aged sours and a solid pale ale standby. It was recently voted best brewpub in America, and for good reason.

The Publick House will always be special to me as the first great beer bar I visited, and it continues to impress with excellent food, a dizzying bottle list, a great mix of locals and Belgians on-tap, and one of the best bar vibes in the region. I love standing in the big upper bar area, watching the Green Line trolleys go by, and then being seated in the lower area for a killer meal.

NOt beer related but related to my trip. So again we are going to a game while there. I'm a Cody Ross fan and actually look just like him. Is it safe to wear Ross Giants gear to Fenway? Trust me I know the Giants aren't playing, but just supporting the Boss with what I got!

You shouldn't have any issues wearing Giants gear. Yankees gear, on the other hand, might cause some issues.......

Yea perfectly safe. If someone gets mad at you wearing a Ross Giants jersey they have bigger issues in their life. Plus, us Sox fans can't really say much right now...

Not that it matters, but Cody Ross is a member of the Red Sox now (I'm sure you know this) and you could always point this out to anyone who might say something. You'll be fine at Fenway in any case, we're not like Yankee fans. :-)

Yup! I know you're not Yankee fans, as all I've encountered are jerks. I'm stoked for bean town,
    Thanks everyone

The best beer served at Fenway is Wachusett Green Monsta IPA. It may only be poured at 1 or 2 spots so keep an eye out for it.
