My God! Do we need another "boozier" beer?

    I have two comments:

“MillerCoors confirmed the launch today in a memo to distributors that described Fortune as a beer "with edge, intrigue and charisma" that will come in an all-black bottle with an embossed design.”

Maybe you advertising people can answer this question: what’s the deal with black? Black Crown beer, Beck’s Sapphire beer in a black bottle, Fortune in a black bottle?

I took note of: “Still, after rocketing out of the gate in early 2012, Platinum has slowed. The beer controlled 1.15% of the beer category as of mid-July, compared with 1.21% in mid-May, according to IRI, whose figures to not include bar and restaurant sales. Platinum sales fell 24.9% in the 13 weeks ending July 14 to $88.8 million.”

It would appear that beer sales of Bud Light Platinum has slowed down quite a bit after the initial push/advertising for this beer.

    Cheers

Probably because it looks like a shampoo bottle.

I would be willing to bet there are some people who would drink that shampoo if 6% ABV was prominently displayed on the bottle!

    Cheers!

The funny part is that 6-7%abv is actually pretty normal for craft beer. Only when compared to BMC's own weak 3-4% light lagers could some "ice" or "premium" offering be considered strong.

I don't drink craft beer to get tanked, I drink it for the artistic like flavors that lurk within these vessels of craftsmanship, opening my taste buds to never before thought of delights......right up to about the 4th one, after that I stop lying and accept the fact I'm a fancy drunk with his face shoved in his glass so far that when I tried to smell the beer I sucked a little bit up my nose by mistake

Black is classy, man! It says high-end, elegant, premium.

They literally make thousands of IPAs.

I like where you're going with this sour IPA though, you should sell the idea to Trinity.

I think they're just trying to keep their regular customer interested with new items.

I run into many BMC drinkers that drinker certain beers or malt beverages because they have a highel alcohol content than bud. But I guess you wouldn't drink it for the flavor

There's a reason big US beer producers continue to lose market share. These attempted glitzy crap beers will only help them continue to slide. They just keep throwing stupid new ideas/brands at the market in the hopes one really works. Good beer is the last thing on their mind.

Bud Light Platinum "dipped" to 88.8 million and constitutes over 1% of the beer category overall?? That's more in sales than most breweries have ever done. Crazy. And I dsiagree with everyone who thinks that this is a ploy for Craft drinkers. I have plenty of friends with little to no beer palates and they will buy and drink lots of this I'm sure. It's just another product that people will buy that fills up sales and well, it's new, so it will sell. Sadly.

There is no doubt that Bud Light Platinum shot out of the gate; 1% of the beer category represents a quick take up of market share.

Having stated the above, “Platinum sales fell 24.9% in the 13 weeks ending July 14”. Boy, losing 25% is not an insignificant loss. We will need to monitor this situation to see whether this is just a ‘blip’ or an indication of a trend that Bud Light Platinum has ascended quickly but now is getting to be passé. Only time will tell.

    Cheers!

Oh yeah. It certainly won't last. Then again, maybe it's too "heavy" for BMC summer drinkers haha. We'll have to see where it goes. I do know one thing, however, it tastes bad. I'm excited for the day when it's sales dip so low that it gets discontinued.

When I first read the thread title I thought, "Finally, a thread in which someone else agrees we don't need more high octane craft beers."

If more beer advocate's understood what you posted, I believe the ratings would be more accurate overall.
