I do research for these clowns. I know who and what they target. I write the bloody questionnaires.

And...? Did your research tell you that people who get smashed on JD, tequila shots and awful Captain Morgan cocktails will switch to 6.9% beer if offered? I suppose, it's cheaper than drinking cough syrup...

I'm kinda cheap so I think I too kinda do this subconsciously. However I got to the point where nothing was wowing me.Started drinking Sailor Jerry and coke for a couple weekends. Now I am starting to try somethings with good ABV and some good flavor profiles.

Did you know some people like to drink Craft Ales AND sometimes drink spirits ?.I also like to have a Mickey's or Foster's every once in awhile.Hell Foster's is one of my all time favorites.

It's still laughable.6% ? Wow,don't hurt yourself kid.I was just talking to the guy in Bevmo last night and revisting my experience with Double Dog.$14 a six pack.It was a madman.

But I ain't buying no BUD.

I think the goal here is just that, keep the masses interested with a new product in the line up with the brand name they can relate. The big three have no concerns with putting out top quality products. Why would they? They dominate beer sales now with subpar products and have been lowering the quality of the ingredients for some time while increasing the market. They rely heavily on marketing to sell their products, and quite frankly it works really well when you look at the numbers.

As much as I hate to say it, humans are to blame. They majority fall for brainwashing campaigns hook, line, and sinker. And its obviously not just with product sales. We're so lazy now that it works in politics quite handily. And even adult peer pressure...that really blows my mind. We could cite so many examples of this now that this thread would never end. I seriously doubt this is going to change soon either. It likely will get worse. As a whole, we've really proven to be one hell of a gullible species. As for me, I'll stick with making my own decisions. And if that makes me uncool...call me a proud nerd.

I tried Platinum once... Tasted like chemicals to me. Not a fan. I just don't see myself ever going after beers like this.

Am I the only one whose only reaction to this was "that's the best name they could come up with?"

I don't know how this can surprise anyone. They're just trying to compete with Bud in the "premium" market..

Then by definition, you are not a beer advocate. Respect beer.

Lots of folks here think 6% is weak. I remember one night as a young man in England drinking many delicious and various ales and getting wittier and more charming as the night wore on. Only enhanced my thinking!

Well then BMC drinkers must be light-weights. I would have to drink the entire six pack to maybe catch a buzz and even if I managed to expand my stomach to that capacity I would end up having to visit the pisser every thirty minutes. While there are a few prime examples of sub 7% abv beers that are packed with flavor, IMO there is a correlation between abv and taste

I hate getting drunk, regardless if I'm drinking 5% or 15% brews. I drink for the taste of the beer, not to revisit meals.

Reminds me when I went to one of my favorite bottle shops in FL asking if Hop Slam had arrived yet. Before I could ask, someone else did. The clerk said no, and asked the guy if he liked hoppy beers? The guy replied, "I don't know; I just know it's 10%"

It seems to me that BMC drinkers are numerous enough that they have their own understand of beer specific only to them...
They are already accustomed to the taste and expect it; The determining factor is how quickly they get a buzz, and this is considered the "quality" or the superiority of the beer, that warrants the name "Platinum" and increased price.
From what ive observed, and generally this is a sports/divebar related setting, this is considered a while-doing-something-else beer, and to focus on the beer itself would be to see the forest for its trees...
