My last mirror mirror...infected...NOOOOOO

    so i had this at a tasting and loved it. got 3 more bottles via trade and the other 2 were amazing so i thought the infection was bunk. so i was thinking when to open my last one. i was reading reviews and heard it said "enjoy after 4/20/10" and i took out my bottle and there it was, and since today's 4/20/13 i figured it would be perfect. popped the bottle and poured and took a whiff...sad...where is that sweet barley wine i loved in the other bottles i popped? not a super sour smell, but it's just off. took a sip...yep infected, not bad, i'm sure i could drink it, but it's a shell of what i had come to love and i can't do it. this is f'n awful, this was probably a top 5 barley wine for me. such a sad night.

    I've had terrible luck with Deschutes... every 09 Abyss I had was infected and every Mirror Mirror is infected.

    The only MM I've ever had was infected, and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad they're brewing it again so I can (hopefully) try it the way it was intended to taste.

    I've never had a problem with infected Abyss. I've had 06-12 and haven't had any bad bottles.

    It sucks cause the other 2 were amazing so I know what it could have been, that's what I think made it worse when I knew it was infected

    2009 Abyss was infected, but actually somewhat pleasant, leading to what many call "The Abyssident." 2009 Mirror Mirror was also infected. Since those issues, Deschutes has changed the way they handle their beers. I haven't had any issues since the 2009s.

    Not all of 2009 MM was infected. I had well over a case and none to date have been bad. I have 4 left. But after hearing this I may pop one soon. Maybe it went bad. Last one I had was December 2012 and it was great...

    Had 1 or 2 Abyss 09 not infected (but more than 5 that were) so I can understand it. Now at over 8 MM non-infected (finished the last one about 1 hour ago). Not nearly as good as I remember from 11 as it has oxidized and lost something but still much better than infected Abyss. Still loving Deschutes and waiting for '14 MM :slight_smile:
