I'm happy with my intake. This sounds like a challenge for someone on the brink. Good luck OP.

I drink 3 beers every other Saturday. I can get through special occasions without beer , it's the boring parts of life that beer makes better

I applaud what you're doing @fx20736. I've seen many of your posts over the years and they definitely indicated that you drank quite a bit of alcohol on a daily basis. You're making a big change in your drinking habits and I wish you the best of luck. But I must say this...and I know BA's are going to jump down my throat because it seems like I'm assuming you have a drinking problem (which I am not assuming at all)....: In some of your recent posts you've demonstrated the willingness to drop from 42 beers a week to six, you've discussed how you will drop from 42 to six, you've mentioned how you want to drop from 42 to six and you claim that you need to drop from 42 to six. Now, if you aren't able to drop from 42 to six, despite the aforementioned reasons that you said you would, then I think it's time to start getting serious about issues related to addiction. Again, not applying this to you, but it's worth mentioning that in my experience as a social worker, unsuccessful attempts to cut back on one's drinking is a bigger warning sign of alcoholism than the actual amount consumed.

I'm pretty sure he knows that it became an issue. But yeah, I think really if you can't stick to it then you should definitely look at getting some help.

None of us are in any position to say whether or not the OP had a drinking problem. I just wanted to put my two cents out there regarding the alarms that should go off when one tries to reduce drinking and can not.

I'm no doctor, but drinking 48 beers a week plus rum, bourbon etc. is pretty excessive. Now whether the OP is addicted or not is another question. Some people just choose to drink that much. The real test, as you say, will be whether he can stick to this "challenge".

I agree with this, but in your previous post....

it seemed as if you had already declared he did have an issue.

Sorry to nit-pick here. I just want to make it abundantly clear to the OP and to those reading this thread that pointing out whether or not someone has a drinking problem is a lot more nuanced than simply tallying up the amount they consume. Again, I only wish to highlight the importance of trying to quit/reduce drinking and failing to do so. With all that said, I personally believe, and am confident the medical community would concur, that 42 beers plus hard liquor every week is absolutely excessive.

I think the issue is that he is drinking too much. And he is aware of that. I have known guys that drink a case a night that will suddenly stop without a second thought. I also know guys who couldn't bear to go a day without a beer. Either way, its still an issue, just not an addiction.

Since when is this a judging thread. I think he just wanted to talk about how he is going to cut down. Either way I think a lot of us drink too much but oh well

Is liquor consumption decreasing, staying the same, or increasing?

Overall units per week (liquor included) is much more important than how much beer you are drinking.

Give the man some support! While mentioned above, that we are all different... I find that no matter what your level of consumption, if you have to stop and think about it/feel guilty about it/consider changing it, then you might not actually be enjoying it as much as you could. If our friend is going to post about something quite serious (that may be on a lot of BAs minds), and have to read down through a bunch of juvenile-ass jokes about 40s, vodka, etc. then we must have a whole bunch of jerks trolling this site who don't really care about advocacy. I would hope that a healthy BA community would want him to be healthy and happy, and enjoy his weekly sixer. I think that I will join you in this effort, my friend. I have been in the same place. Best of luck, and message me if you need anyone to chat with.

I wonder what kind of 6ers he was drinking a day. Either way he will be saving tons of $ and hopefully living longer.

I try to drink only on weekends, 2-4 beers; my job of producing TV commercials is so demanding, beer slows me down. Since my wife and I share the same brew tastes, I end up splitting beers with her so I get to try twice as many new beers without drinking too much. I'm all about tasting.
