Drinking a Beer I brewed I call "Sharp Shooter Ale" nothing but just a Pale Ale with more Extract that call for, right at 6.0 ABV,actually I am guilty of not checking my Gravity,MY BAD,,I truly, quite actually hate wasting good beer to check each time,I AGREE with most of you folks,YOU need to know what it is for certain I guess!!

    3.3 lbs Dark Malt Extract
    6.0 lbs Pale Malt Extract
    1/2 lbs ~2 Row Grain
1 oz Hoptimus Rex Cascade (At Boil)
1 oz Hoptimus Rex Cascade at 40 minutes into Boil

Simple enough no doubt but good beer. I wanna "Smoke" this beer for added flavor~Suggestions appreciated! What about all the Mesquite Trees here,I might could "Smoke" my 1/2 lb grain in it?? How Long??

Yes, mesquite is one fine smok'in wood...they do make mesquite smoked base malt (Briess, I think) a little pricey, but a lot less hassle than smoking it yourself, if you've got a mash tun.

A pint to steady the hand, huh?

I've had lots of luck smoking grains. The quick and dirty:

You want to keep the smoke cool or you will possibly destroy the diastastatic power of the grain

(I can't vouch for your starch conversion being done with 2 row this way)

You want to have the grain slightly wet. A spray bottle through the process works well

NO CHLORINE/CHLORAMINES in the brewing prcocess. EVER. Spray bottle too.

The longer you smoke it the stronger the flavor. I'm sure there's a ceiling

Make enough for at least two batches. Your first batch is a test of how smoky your malt is.

After you smoke your grain you can dry it in the oven. After it's completely dry I let it rest in a paper bag for a few weeks. I've never used freshly smoked malt, but it can supposedly carry an acrid flavor to it.

A disposable aluminum tray will do the trick. I'd shoot for smoking 4 hours. Stir and spray every half hour or every hour, depending on how involved you want to get. If you're using mesquite, you may as well throw some jalapenos on the grill or some hard boiled eggs. Make it worth your time.

Hey @Larry82052 , sounds like yer a do it yourselfer. So am I, and I also smoke everything from meat to veggies and 2 times I smoked some 2 row with hickory wood.

As @inchrisin said, I do not know about the possible changes in the grain after smoking,,,, but, what has worked for me was finding some stainless steel screen , spread out the grain so it is no more than a half inch thick and cold smoke the grain for 1 hour. After leave it open to the air and if possible, blow some air through it till dry.

If using a half lb per batch, your abv will be affected slightly, but the smokey taste you are looking for will be present. Longer smoking

If you have the smoker cranked up, throw a pan of flour in there, great for flour tortillas and bread, dried masa works well if you like corn tortillas. Also get a good quality salt and throw it in a small metal pan. Never waste that smoke

Don't forget the garlic when yer smokin the flour. Smoked garlic is excellent.
Of course I did try smoking a mix of coffee beans and coco nibs for a couple hours using white oak. Sad to say something changed in one or both products, the beer was less then good
