I was in San Antonio for the first time last week. I want to thank very much everyone who provided recommendations and advice to my pre-trip post at http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/san-antonio-in-early-may.1496/#post-14667 I visited The Esquire twice. Seems to be the only place on the Riverwalk that give a wit about good beer. Had several Ranger Creek offerings, which were pretty good. Cockails were excellent, too, as I watched the Spurs (Go Spurs Go!) finish off the Jazz. I also visited The Friendly Spot and the Alamo Street Eat Bar. What can I say about these places, except that they were AWESOME. Great vibe, cool staff and customers, very tasty tacos. And the beer was excellent. Had lots of Stash, by a brewery out of Austin (don't remember the name), which was really, really good. Had a Deschutes limited series IPA (bottle) that was huge. Really a great time in San Antonio because of these places, and I never would have known about them without the BA posters in this forum. If I can ever return the favor when any of you plan to visit NC, please let me know.
Stash is by Independence Brewing. Have only had it fresh at the brewery, but its good, and I'm definitely not an IPA guy. Glad you had a good time!
New I did not have a car, so I decided to keep it somewhat close to the hotel. No Freetail, unfortunately.
