Hello beer drinking world, I go to school in Myrtle Beach and I'm originally from Massachusetts. Up north I can get my hands on all kinds of world class beers but down here its just not the same. Most of the reason is probably because I have spent way less time researching beers down here but there doesn't seem to be a local Alagash equivalent (somewhere I can get a good beer thats not so expensive I want to wait for an occasion to open it) and yes i know I can get Alagash here but I'd rather something local. If it makes any difference my most comfortable price point is under $20 for a four pack or a bomber. Thanks in advance for the help!
I don't live in MB, but I do know that Piggly Wiggly (grocery store) at Market Common has a really nice craft beer section. They also have a growler station and some glassware, as well. Last time I was there, they had a lot of good/harder-to find beers that were already sold out in other places. As far as local beers are concerned, you should be able to find some Westbrook. Good luck!
Hi Zmahan, I'm not really sure how to answer your question. No, MB doesn't have an Allagash. We are a really small town with no really huge breweries. We do have New South, which is an awesome bunch of guys making some solid brews. I'd recommend stopping in for a tour and tasting. We have a few brewpubs like Quigleys in Pawleys Island and Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery at Broadway at the Beach. We have a few good beer stores (like the Piggly Wiggly mentioned above) and bars. You'll be able to find Westbrook, Holy City and COAST from Charleston here. Check out seekabrew.com to see what SC gets that MS doesn't. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that we do actually have some good beers available here under $20. There is a website that lists all the brews on tap around town, too.
@johntangus If you ever want to try Alagash I have found it at a store in downtown Conway (I can't recall the name) Last I was there they had Curieux White and Black.
I think John was saying that Myrtle Beach isn't home to a brewery like Allagash, not that they don't get their beers.
Yes, we get a good selection of Allagash here. I did indeed mean that we don't have a brewery that size in Myrtle Beach. If you are looking for other folks in the area that share the same passion - the local homebrew club is meeting at the Crafty Rooster in Conway this Saturday at 1PM. We open commercial beers, too.
