Coming from the midwest. What are the great beers I should be looking for? Good dogfish releases I might be able to pickup? Noble rot? Wws? What's the story on any festivals memorial day weekend? Can't miss Carolina beers?
www.myrtlebeachcraftbeer.com By far the best selection in the Myrtle Beach area is The Piggly Wiggly at Market Commons.
Check out myrtlebeachcraftbeer.com, and be sure to stop by the Piggly Wiggly at Market Common. They have the best selection in the area, bar none, and have a growler station. Edit- beat me to it!
Wah Wah Wah ....... I suppose sexual choclate and Mexican cake would be no goes for sale anywhere as well......
It's not impossible, just extremely highly improbable on finding the sc on draft... mexican cake, slightly less so... as for bottles of either, you might be able to find ip trades.
I went there last year on vacation and Piggly is the best by far. I am from the Mid-West too and I found a lot of beers I couldn't find in Indy. I thought the pricing of the growlers was a little high, but didn't bring mine with me, and they were charging too much for a new one. I will be there in under 4 weeks for vacay and can't wait. Stop number 1!
EasyReader is correct - the Pig will fill only the screw-top growlers because they have to seal them with a shrink wrap band. Can't miss beers - pretty much anything by COAST. There is a new batch of Boy King DIPA coming out soon. Also, most of the Westbrook stuff is really good. Covert Hops is excellent and the new Gose is amazing. You can find both at the Pig. Levon and Whitekiboko - both SC and Mexican Cake were available on draft as early as two weeks ago in a couple of places. Probably not still around. Foothills just began distro again in South Carolina a month or two ago and blessed us with several kegs of Sexy Choc. Hoppyum and People's Porter (not bal- ) are available in bottles at the Pig. Damon's in NMB may still have some barrel-aged People's Porter on draft. Check the tap lists at the website listed above, I try and keep them current! Also a heads-up - Memorial Day here is insane. We'll be in the midst of bike week. Probably 100,000+ motorcycles in town that weekend. Most locals either hunker down or flee. No beer festivals - as for me - I'm fleeing to the upstate!
Biker week is hell! When they created the helmet law, people were pissed, but now that they have eliminated that law, MB will be crazy again. I dont think it will ever be that same as it was before, though. Lots of people have bad tastes in their mouth and head North or down to Pawleys and Surfside.
Last Growler I bought, the guy mentioned they were getting a new capping system which will be superior to what they have. I've seen Maharaja on tap here, Hopsickle, Sculpin, hell there's always at least two outstanding offerings at a time.
Does bike week end on memorial day or does it start memorial day weekend and run through the next week.....
It seems bike week will end this weekend? We're getting in next Saturday and staying the next week. Will these crowds have died off by then?
You'll be getting here at the pinnacle of the craziness. But it will die down by Sunday evening and by Monday they should be gone. Enjoy your trip! Check my tap list to see what's on at the Pig. Cheers and enjoy your trip!
