What's the craft beer scene like? It's been over a decade since I've been down in SC, and I remember there were some strange alcohol laws.
Piggly Wiggly at the Market Common. You might end up at the one on Kings Highway and you'll wonder why you were told to go there. You'll also want to hit up Atlas Tap House if you're looking for a bar. Best selection on the beach. High end bourbon selection too if you're into that.
I think you'll find that a lot has changed in 10 years. Higher abv limits, sunday sales, more breweries represented, both local and national. 10 years ago my company didn't even have a rep for Myrtle Beach. We have 2 now.
I miss the Ocean Drive, Cherry Grove, and Windy Hill days. It's me, but I avoid Myrtle Beach. I like the real places that I probably ought not to mention! For a real live adventure go to Ocracoke Island.
If you want things commercialized, go to myrtle. thank goodness for the house of blues. I'd prefer chuck town, the banks or topsail.
Market common piggly wiggly is best store....no contest Hurricane Maggies always has the best quality beers on tap with a great, knowledgeable staff Fire and smoke is the best food/beer combo Liberty taproom has a about 30 taps. Hurricane maggies, fire and smoke and liberty are all on the same block which makes that area a MUST STOP for draft beer. Atlas also opened this year in the heart of myrtle and they do a fine job as well. Outside of those options, you have mellow mushroom and tilted kilt which are both chains that serve mostly bmc branded crafts with just a few decent selections.
Ah yes..another monthly "Myrtle Beach sucks" discussion...I live in Windy Hill and within a 10 minute drive from my front door there are excellent bottle, tap and food options. We get the same stuff Charleston does, just not as much...
Myrtle Beach doesn't suck. If my kids were young I'd take them. Now, I don't need all of the "attractions".
