Why would sales tax matter here?
The company will make a profit, and many places generally give discounts for bulk purchases, not charge more per bottle.

Not sure why people are still defending the box, a representative of the store came and implied that this is not the way he would have done it, but we will have to see how it ends up.

Nope, on the second point. They are selling beer collectively. They should be offering atleast a small break. And, their blurb even claims that to be the case.

Agreed, profit is already built into the retail price, no need to account for it separately.

Retail prices already include a profit for the store 99% of the time. It may be a lot, it may be a little but it usually is already in the MSRP.

That actually explains it, but they shouldn't do mystery boxes without you!

Moe has been in touch and has been super cool. I bet if he hadn't been out of town, this wouldn't have happened, and I'd be singing the praises of craftbeerkings.

And before this is over, I still may sing their praises. Every time you fail a customer, you have an opportunity to recruit an evangelist. All everyone wants is to be treated well. When we are, we don't forget, and we tell as many people as we can.

What are you talking about. Did you add the tax on the 200$ that he spent on this POS box? Tax does not come in to play here.

So, those are the prices from craft beer kings? If so, yeah they're ripping you off. Even with 10 percent sales tax, they're charging about 10 percent more on top of that.

I guess my point was that if you bought all those in a store it would likely cost much closer to $200 than he makes it seem. Most of the MSRP's he listed are $1 or $2 less per bottle than I would see in my stores, plus then I would be charged tax. So my point was if those were all bought in a store (at least the stores I shop at) it might cost $180-$200. Then you have to figure in the company's profit that they need to make to stay in business. I'm not saying I would be happy with the box either, but for your non-BA beer drinker I dont think it looks as terrible as people are making it sound.

Craft beer at the prices stated earlier usually is a 30% price increase for profit in normal stores. So 166$ paying 200 is another 16%, plus 40$ shipping. So they are making at least 46% profit in their price mark up. Does that seem a bit high?.......

as stated above, he got most of the prices from the same place he bought the shitty box.

good that it seems to be veering toward a happy ending, but that's an emphatically shitty "mystery box." it allows only for the possibilities that 1) person who put it together doesn't know much about craft beer demand, quality, or availability (or 1a: is an idiot), or 2) person who put it together is intentionally ripping people off by sending easily available beer and charging a premium for nothing.

The prices on the site are inflated from what I see stuff at my stores. You talk about the tax you would be charged at your local shop but not the $40 shipping he spent to get this to him.

You sir, do not understand economics. If the store sells if for $30.....and puts it into a box....they do not need to mark it up more than that $30 to make a profit. ITS ALREADY FACTORED IN

sounds like they had beer that wasn't moving so they threw 'em into a "mystery box". Good marketing I guess?

While that's not exactly a great box (and an even worse deal), I'd just like to add that I'd kill to see any of those beers on the shelf where I live.

Well, except for that Indian Wells beer. And that bourbon-barrel stout from Anderson Valley.

Ummm... Remember, we have yet to see the ending to this one. You didn't actually toast that beer to this right? We still don't know if they ever made it right to the poor guy.
As it looks to me so far: "Sorry you got shit on while I was gone, we'll make it right to everyone else after you though". But as I said, this is all WE know so far.
