I just spoke with Moe. Great guy! He apologized profusely, and is shipping me some beer to make up for the price difference, and also some extras.

Not only am I extremely pleased with how this was resolved, it also looks like I've found a new trading partner. I'll be sending him beer shortly.

Moe turned an unhappy experience into a happy one. Bottom line: I really like CraftBeerKings. They're serious about making their customers happy, and they now have a lifetime supporter in me.

I'll post the beers I get when they arrive. And based on the conversation I had with Moe, I'm sure anyone who buys a Mystery Box in the future will get a great deal.

Exactly the answer I was hoping for.

Thanks for the effort in documenting this OP!

Moe is sending me two Almanac BA Heirloon Pumpkin Barleywines and a Collage (Deschutes/Hair of the Dog). He also threw in an Imperial Biscotti Break and two Weyerbacher Insanity.

    Very awesome.

Sending out Indian Wells Whiskey Barrel Amber in a box of supposedly good beer is just too good. TOO GOOD.

I haven't tried Collage. Looking forward to it. As for Insanity, it isn't common where I live--Weyerbacher doesn't distribute to Illinois. I love that beer, so I'm really happy to get it.

I'm glad this worked out for you, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. I think they were hoping the person wouldn't care. They got unlucky and didn't get away with sending shelf turds in an overpriced box. The real mystery is, how many other people got hosed and don't even know it or don't care to complain? No one seems to care about those people. Moe isn't the only employee working there. Yes, he made good of this situation, but the damage is done. Months from now every one will forget about this and Moe will probably stop personally making the boxes. I guess that's why I love beeradvocate... Among it's many uses, it helps inform our community of bad practices.

I almost bought a box the other day until I saw this thread. I am very glad I came across it as it prevented me from purchasing a box that wasn't worth the $$. Now that it has been resolved I am more likely to purchase a box in the future but I still leaves me with some concerns. Thank you for the extremely useful thread.

I'm happy that your happy and you worked it out, i'd just wait on the "lifetime supporter" thing until you actually get your stuff. And by posting in this thread i'm sure you scared him a bit into making things right for the sake of public relations

You thought about buying a box, but then because of this you didn't buy a box. And now that its resolved, you are now thinking about buying a box but you still have concerns. Did anything really change? :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha. Fair enough. What I meant was I am more likely to buy one now that it is resolved but there is still concern that I'll end up in the same situation as Haknort. I have less reservations than before since they addressed the issue. I just hope they don't screw up my box.

Cheers joe! Glad I made you happy! I personally dropped off the package before heading to Denver to GABF. Wanted to handle this matter for you asap! I'm looking forward to trading with you buddy! As for future of the mystery boxes I sat down with the staff and discussed this matter. For those for are on the fence of purchasing one.. If you do not like we will either refund you the whole amount and send you a returning label. I'm doing my best to include all the great barrel aged beers out there for you guys! Cheers everyone! I respect all your opinions!

I'd have to ask what would a beer guy who's in a great Distribution state want to buy a blind box of beer for $240 You weren't going to get Pliny, rare or hard to get brews, or Whale status Stouts in that box. For $240 of great beer you have access to you could have created a mind blowing box of stuff.

I love barrel aged beers, and the Mystery Box was a cool chance to try an assortment, and I assumed it would contain some beers I haven't tried before. Which it did. I haven't had six of the twelve I was sent, and I also haven't had the ones Moe just shipped to me.

So I gambled, and in this case it paid off.

Also, IL is indeed a great distribution state. But liquor stores around have a limit of 1 per customer for hard to find beers, and they literally sell out immediately. My local Binny's got two cases of Velvet Merkin, and at 1 per customer they were gone two hours after the store opened.

+1 for Collage, an awesome beer.

I'll probably not try a mystery box from them, but based on what I've read here I'll definitely frequent their site and look into making a purchase. To anyone saying the retailer doesn't have to do anything for the customer, take note: swallow your pride, make the customer happy and not only did you make a former unhappy customer into a happy current customer, but now you have a new customer. Business 101.
