Long before I knew what a good beer was, (3-4 years ago)near Wrigleyville some friends and I drank the hell out of a beer that was pronounced "quack" but with a long A sound. I know the beer or style actually was spelled with a "K" to start it off and I believe we were told it was from Belgium. Besides the delicious taste, what I remember most were the glasses that the beer was served in. They were big tulip glasses but in some kind of a wooden frame. The wooden frame was the portion that you were supposed to pick up in order to drink the beer. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Yup, it's Kwak. Belgian strong golden ale, comes with a sort of hourglass glass that has to be supported by a wooden stand. Sadly, I've never tried it, but it used to pop up around here for the holidays with the special glass/stand combo. Here's a pic of the glass... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosteels_Brewery
That's got to be it because the description of the glass and holder are spot on. Now I need to look for a bottle... Back then it was a huge improvement to the Miller Lite I used to drink by the gallon!
kwak isn't that hard to find. i'm not a huge fan...it certainly is a solid beer though. always wanted to know the story behind the glass.
