I'll be visiting Nantucket from my home base in the Midwest. I'd appreciate any recommendations for beers that I should check out while I'm there. I like almost every kind of beer style.

There is a free shuttle from downtown to the Cisco brewery ....very cool spot .....usually a few food trucks and live entertainment starting in the early afternoon ....very fun

I'd advise going to Cisco on a weekday, earlier side of 3/4 if you can. It gets mobbed by the after beach crowd daily and weekends are chug-feats that can be a bit obnoxious

A lot of restaurants and bars have cisco on tap. Usually the whales tale. Also most liquor stores on the island sell their beer as well. Grab a few bottles and head to the nearest beach if the brewery is too crowded. Bartlets farm, which is out by the brewery, has some great food to go with the beers and is close to the beach.

Are you only going to be on Nantucket? or spending some time on the mainland?
Cisco is the only brewery on Nantucket, though you should be able to find some other craft beers. Probably not much, though - Sam Adams, Harpoon, maybe something from Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod. You won't see much if any of the other New England beers there.
If you have time on the Cape or in Boston, your options open widely.

Only been to Nantucket once, but thought it was mostly a beer wasteland. Took the shuttle to Cisco and walked into an overcrowded, very noisy frat party; couldn't wait to leave. YMMV.

I'm only going to be on Nantucket. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it to the mainland this one.

My experience (with young kids) at Cisco has been less frat like than the posts above. It's been a weekday after the beach each time I have been (admittedly probably only 4 times). A solid mix of families, young people, "older" people. Live music of some sort. Plenty of tap selection plus the wines and distillery options, as well. Very relaxed scene. Recommend checking it out.

Plus, this time of year all of the college kids are back at school, it should be fine.

Thank you all for your suggestions! My family and I had a very trip to Nantucket. We visited Cisco and found it to be very mellow and family friendly. We went on the early side, so it wasn't very crowded and then went to Bartlets Farm. My biggest surprise on the island was how much Bear Republic beer they have! All in all, a very nice trip. I hope to make it back on day.
