I live about 15 miles from the epicenter and as a native Californian who lost a friend when the Cypress Structure Freeway collapsed during 1989........a 6.0 WILL scare you.

Like Earlycsquid said if this happened during the day many, many more people hurt and killed.

Oh man, so sorry about your friend. I think about that collapse every time I'm driving under one, and especially when stopped under one. Always makes me feel uneasy.

I don't believe so. I asked someone I know who is a higher up there and they said they had a few hundred bottles broken, but the bottles were never meant for sale (test experiments). But they did have a few cases of wine that were packaged and ready to ship out that did break. They did have three barrels fall, but they were salvaged.

Here's the twitter feed of the CEO of SO, you can see the photos he took of their damage

There are some really bad barrels broken in other places though, got hit hard.

A-B actually bottled purified water in their Van Nuys plant and distributed it to my elementary school. The teachers had to "hide" the bottles and pour the water into separate containers for us to drink. I still remember that vividly from 20 years ago.

I hate earthquakes. Hope everyone and their beer made it out of this okay.

Yeah, I verified the barrels that were tossed around were empty.

I know you just meant it as a joke, but every time I see this my class in California Geology kicks in. And this will be TMI.

California actually rose out of the ocean that's why there's the Sierra Nevada and Coastal ranges came from the collision of the plates creating a subduction zone. Anyways it went the opposite direction that most people think. That's how California had all that gold from hydro-thermal vents in the ocean floor.

The San Andreas Fault is a strike slip fault moving laterally is causing some movement, but that is moving Los Angeles north rather then into the sea. That being said if a major earthquake hits San Francisco again much of the water front will go into the bay since it's built on the wreckage of the last major earthquake. Many parts of SF and other Oakland are built on unstable landfills subject to liquefaction. Plus most of the homes in SF are not built to code(since they were built before there was one) and would suffer major damage in an earthquake potentially making half of San Francisco homeless. Plus what the earthquake wouldn't get the fires will.

Yeah it was meant more of a joke, but hey I learned something today. Thanks.

In a joking but not quite manner I am trying to find "the more you know star".

In other words, if we wait long enough Los Angeles will be a sister city of San Francisco, and high speed rail will not be required.

I live 23 miles from the epicenter. This quake was NO JOKE. While I was saved from the real sharp hit that was the first part of the quake, I got the big rollers and waves of the latter part of the quake. No damage at all to my house.

I didn't have any damage, but have co-workers and friends who have significant damage to their houses and families houses.

Funny side... I've always counted on my cats to freak out before a big quake... yea, they didn't do shit. LOL, they woke up and got scared just like me and the GF.

They're cats; of course they are. The only reason they keep you around is because you can open a can.

Yeah...our cat woke up, walked over to her food bowl to see if there was anything new, kind of hung out being a cat for a few minutes and then went upstairs and jumped into the bathtub. Eventually came out and began swishing her tail as if to say "hey---there's going to be an earthquake ten minutes ago"

They think they're all that but cats don't know shit.
