Narragansett Beer is releasing a limited-edition Holiday Ale this week. It features flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and orange peel.

The 7 percent alcohol by volume is a dark amber ale that blends Two-Row and Cara Bohemian malts, and balances it with 60 minutes of Simcoe hops and an array of seasonal spices. Suggested retail price for a 4-pack is $10.99-$11.99.

The beer will only be available in Rhode Island but is expected to come and go from local stores quickly. Narragansett made just 570 cases and 10 kegs for the small run.

Being an old favorite, and always being represented as the American Craft Beer Fests put on by BA each May in years past, there was a time when I had to buy a four of every 'Gansett beer put out and give them a try. Their Bock beer was exceptionally tasty and crisp - I frigging loved that one but they discontinued it. Their porter - smooth and silky - I once bought four fours of that one just so I had enough to last a while. Then I tried their Octoberfest and was greatly disappointed - how could they screw up what seemed to be such an easy style to nail? And their 4.7% Town Beach IPA - unfortunately in this day and age, that's the one that closed the book on me for Narragansett. I'll pass on their Holiday beer, but will gladly pick up another four of their Porter and campaign for a return of their bock any day of the week. But do hope the Holiday beer turns heads and is a winner for an a much loved old New England brewery. Cheers! Oh, and guess we're now squarely in the season so, happy holidays!

Wish I could try this. Naragansett Lager is my "go-to" beer when I want something simple and quaffable. I enjoy their seasonals, most recently the Autocrat Coffee Milk Stout.

I try to try all of naragansett's "special" releases but will prob pass on this. Winter spice beers aren't great to begin with.

Being from the Providence/Fall River area autocrat milk stout is always a good get, though.

I hadn't had many winter spice beers since my run of liking then after a while detesting Harpoon Winter Warmer between 10-15 years ago. However I had 2XMas by Southern Tier on tap at a mostly BMC bar a few weeks ago and it was delightful. Not a confused mess like most others, the base beer was a nice imperial amber and the potpourri of spices comes through at the end but doesn't feel like I'm huffing potpourri if you know what I mean.

I won't go out of my way for the 'Gansett version (looks like I need to with how limited it is), but my recent good experience would encourage me to at least get a taster.

I think its pretty good although a bit pricey for Narragansett's usual fair. The post above me mentions Harpoon's Winter Warmer and yeah it does seem a bit similar to that but its clearly better and has more complexity, depth, etc.

I enjoyed it as well, nice malt sweetness balanced with the spices. Lots of nutmeg and cinnamon for sure. Only grabbed a single but wouldn't have minded drinking a 4-pack of this over a few weeks.

I'll give this a shot, for sure. 'Gansett has sometimes surprised me recently!
