    Ten Fidy is pure pleasure.

I don't think this is even close. Ten Fidy has a better aroma. Better mouthfeel and a way better flavor profile. Excellent malt bill and hop presence with great coffee notes and tons of chocolate. Ten Fidy is almost like drinking liquid brownies and is a world class stout. Narwhal stout is nothing more than pretty good. They aren't really in the same league

Very interesting... Also the first I'm hearing of Nar being a retooled version of F&K, and I just recently found a bar that had a bottle of F&K (for $13 no less!). I'll be sure to pick up some Narwhal soon and report back!

Narwhal is not as chewy as Ten-Fidy, hence one could consider it more quaffable - or sessional is better. I can drink several Narwhals, but one is my limit for Ten-Fidy, which is much pricier where I live. Still, I could live with both of them.

I have never had Narwhal but I would take Old Rasp over Ten Fidy. Ten Fidy is just over priced IMO

even "very good" stouts are rarely let go for 8 bucks a 4 pack! .[/quote]

Deschutes Obsidian goes for $8-10/6-pack. Not "imperial" but I'll take it over Narwhal or TenFidy any day. And Narwhal over TenFidy FWIW.

Narwhal is decent, nowhere as good as Old Rasputin, but still enjoyable. Never had Ten FIDY, but can't help but wonder if FIDY is some sort of acronym? I only ask because I don't know. Some could interpret this as a marketing ploy to make this beer appeal to the hip hop generation, say like, Fiddy Cent.

Just had my first Ten Fidy last night. I was blown away by it. I had an Old Rasputin last week and it was good but not Ten Fidy good. I can't remember Narwhal so I can't really compare the experience. But I will be surprised if Narwhal is better than Ten Fidy. As a Californian it pains me to admit that.

FIDY is a reference to the ABV. 10.5%.

I don't understand the fuss about Narwhal. I did not care for it at all when I sampled some earlier this year. On the other hand, TenFidy is one of the best RISs I've ever tasted.

Yeah, I mean, I think Narwhal is a good beer and Sierra Nevada is probably top 10 overall for me in breweries and well above Oskar Blues, but Narwhal is NOT Fidy-tier. I'm literally sitting next to a glass of Narwhal right now as I type this. It's a good beer, great at its price point, but Fidy is basically carbonated pudding. I'm pretty surprised to hear people are actually taking Narwhal in a straight up tasting. I know it's all subjective, but this is some Philip Rivers vs. Aaron Rodgers type shit.

I guess I'm an exception because I tend to analyze less and not grapple over the price difference and buy one or the other depending on my mood and considering both are so good. Had a barrel aged TenFidy a few years ago...waiting for Narwhal to do the same. Possibly sick? Absolutely and what is the hold up, Sierra Nevada!

SN released a BBA Narwhal, but it is extremely limited.

I had some; while I liked it, it is one of those stouts that gets completely overwhelmed by the barrel flavors. That may not be a bad thing, depending on your preferences.

So I put my money where my mouth was and did a blind RIS tasting and was proven totally wrong on what I thought.

Before doing the side by side I had initially ranked in order of preference.
    1. Narwhal
    2. Old Rasputin
    3. Ten Fidy
    3. BCS

After doing the blind tasting my results were,
    1. Ten Fidy
    2. Old Rasputin
    3. BCS
    4. Narwhal

It was a lot of fun, we're definitely gonna so some more blind tastings with other styles.
What the heck did I see in Narwhal previous to the blind tasting?

Today I tried Narwhal vs Expedition. Expedition was by far the more rich and complex beer, but Narwhal might have been the more enjoyable. I can see how Narwhal would be compard to an imperial porter. Expedition and Ten Fidy are motor oil stouts. Narwhal has much less on the mouthfeel, making it more drinkable and also delivering better on the dark fruit and hop bittering (as opposed to roast or chocolate bittering)

Narwhal for me, Ten Fidy is way too sweet for me.
