I'm from Chicago, visiting Nashville this weekend. Any suggestions as to which local beers to try/look for? I want best of the best here
Went to Nashville for business about a month ago and it definitely is not a town known for its craft beer. I think I had something from Yazoo and Jackalope to get a feel for the city down there and they were nothing to write home about. I think Craft Brewed is the place to hit up.... http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/city/68/
Yazoo, Turtle Anarchy, and Jackalope are all great. Also, if you're into whiskey, check out Corsair's distillery. People can hate on the Nashville beer scene all they want, but's come a long way since I lived there. It's not Asheville, but there is some good beer to be had and a good beer culture to go with it. Flying Saucer is a good place to start. Craft Brewed is good, too. If you're looking for more divey type bars, the Beer Seller and Broadway Brewhouse are fun places.
My advice is focus on the food and not the beer. Hattie B's hot chicken is a wonderful thing. EDIT: And just drink bourbon.
Sue is a good smoked Porter from Yazoo... Sweetwater and Terrapin can be found in Nashville as well...
Check out Yazoo to see if any of their ETF beers are on tap. Very well thought of. Go to Franklin and check out Cool Springs Brewery and Red Dog Wine and Spirits.
If you can make the half hour drive south of the city I would 2nd Cools Springs Brewery, I personally love the Fatback amber.
