Anyone get their scores? Got mine today and scored a 35 for my bourbon barrel flanders red. My sheet indicated I made the mini-bos round but no indication of place.

What form do the scores come in... email? regular mail? I am getting anxious now as this was my first time entering!

I sent mine to Denver, and they just emailed me maybe a week ago looking for one of my entries (I registered a beer that ended up not getting bottled until after the competition deadline), so I'm guessing I've got a little while yet to wait before I get my results. Looking forward to the feedback though.

Thanks. I hope I just had some hard scorers because all of the comments were very good and I expected the beer to score a little higher. I know that it doesn't matter since I made mini-bos. Interestingly, that same beer was entered in a local comp so I will be curious to see the score variations.

Sent mine to Pittsburgh, they're still judging as of this weekend.

I received my scores from the Philly site maybe two weeks ago. It was the fastest I've received scores.

Did pretty well, too. 35 on my Weizenbock, with some points off for a slight bit of oxidation. 36 on my whiskey barrel aged pumpkin spice ale with a note that I may progress to the next round with it, and the bottle was overcarbed and exploded all over the judges. Makes me annoyed because I may have broken 40 points (which I have yet to do) if I didn't send them slightly faulty bottles.

Yes, the top three scores from each style category (main category, not subcategory) in each geographic region advance to the next round. However, anyone who scores over 21 points gets a certificate of recognition. 21-30 is bronze certification, 31-40 is silver, 41-50 is gold... I think.

Yes that is correct. For example, the top 3 stouts move on. Then at the 2nd round there are 33 stouts (10 USA centers and Canada), and they award the gold, silver, and bronze for stouts.

Interesting. Now I am getting my hopes up since I can't imagine there were that many specialty entries.

A couple of people are reporting that there was a place indicated on their score sheets. Was this done at every site? If so, I guess I did not place.

You'd be surprised. Specialty is a pretty popular category. Last year there were like 350-400 Category 23 entries, which is on the high side compared to others, and this year saw way more competition entries overall. But, that category also gets more disqualifications and WTF beers than others, so who knows. Best of luck either way!

You sure they aren't confusing it with the "tasting order" marks on the cover sheet? Judges are supposed to put the number of the ordinal tasting on the cover. So if that judge tasted 10 beers in a session, they'd mark each sheet 1 out of 10, 2 out of 10, 3 out of 10, etc. based on the order they drank them in. Not all of my sheets had it, but about half did, one of which was marked "2", but it sure as hell wasn't a second place beer, haha.

As far as I know, judging centers don't actually know who the winners are. Judges score objectively and send their numbers to the AHA database. The AHA then digs through the data to find the winners. And they certainly wouldn't know at the time of filling out the judging sheets, making it unlikely that your friends were given ranks.

Just my two cents, though. I could certainly be wrong.

My understanding is the the mini-bos round are where the top 3 for each category are determined and the scores from the first round are irrelavent as a way to factor out variations in judges.

I would assume you didn't place. I had this on a recent competition.

Unless they did not mark down your final place awardedWhich happens sometimes), you did not advance. Watch for the winners list to be posted on May 4, on the AHA site linked above.

The regional centers know the winners. The one I judged at read off the top 3 per category on Saturday night. I know of other centers that did the same.

My score sheets were all a little bit different too. I got mine via email, in PDF format. I had two beers that I know of that went to mini-BOS round. My American Barleywine was 10 in a flight of 19 and in the place awarded box, there was a 2 with a score of 38.5. So, I guessing I placed second in the Strong Ale Category? I had an Oud Bruin, score 37, went to the mini-BOS round but that is all they filled out. I'm not sure if it placed or not.... My questions will be answered once the official results come out on the 4th.
