I agree with Vikeman. In fact I'll take it a step farther and say that if you took Rye off of the name Hop Rod Rye, none of those reviews would have mentioned spicy. People see the ingredient rye and have no idea how to classify it. Certainly bready and more characterful, but not spicy.

Really excited to see the results - the suspense is killing me... and go figure - its my own home region holding things up...been stuck on "Chicago Judging - Processing ...." since last night!

Results are out but only show the top three in each category. I guess individual scoring and if an entry moves on will have to wait for the mail.

I thought an entry only moved on if it was top 3... no?

Maybe so. The first time I read the rules I thought I understood that if it scored 30 or above it moved on but after reading it again I'm not sure.

.....Ok, I went back and read this thread. I was confused, it is just the top 3 in each category. Anyway, still have to wait to see the scores.

It has to score 30 or above to advance. The top 3 advance, if they are all above 30. In some regions there were categories that did not have 3 advance, as there were not 3 above 30.

They are posted now, and I'd guess most folks close to Denver have likely received they're score sheets (I did and live near Co Springs). Did pretty well, getting 4 of 9 entries through to the finals... Disappointed as one of the ones I thought would do well ended up being contaminated (keg bottled a few months ago for another comp)... Always pays to check prior to entering I guess.

Thanks, I realize now that I must have misunderstood the info way back in February and it just stuck.

My score sheets from Denver came in today. My raspberry wheat ale didn't do to well (25), which I somewhat expected as it's been in the bottle for almost 5 months already and is definitely going downhill. Still, got some good feedback regarding the mouthfeel and the base beer. My dubbel was a pleasant surprise, scoring a 36. I bottled it last fall and it didn't do nearly as well at a competition in January (31.5), and has me feeling better about taking another crack at that recipe. My imperial IPA didn't do as well as I would have liked (29), but I ended up not being super impressed with it either.

Just got my results on my Raspberry wheat. It scored a 31, not to bad for my first time. I lost a lot of points (1 in appearance, 1 in mouthfeel, one in taste) because the bottle was a gusher. Talk about bad luck! I have had about ten of them already and not one gushed or was over carbonated at all. Must have been a bad bottle.

To the people who entered the Chicago region..
Just to let you know, your scoresheets were mailed out earlier this week. I apologize for the delay - it was unavoidable.
Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to all for entering this monsterously huge competition!
    Cheers!

Maybe some judges can clarify this - if I only got back 2 score sheets for a beer does that mean only 2 judges evaluated it? For some reason I had thought more judges were involved. Not that I am complaining - it scored well and I understand how challenging it must be to score the sheer number of entries at each location...
