Nats Park actually has some pretty solid beer options, the good stuff is just at a few select locations around the park, and not available everywhere. The Red Porch, right by the main entrance, has the best selection of craft stuff. They usually have ~14 taps including stuff from DC Brau, Atlas, Flying Dog, Dogfish Head, etc. There are also two "District Drafts" locations on the lower level, one near Section 136 and the other near Sec. 119, and a 3rd near Sec. 309, that have a good selection of local stuff including DC Brau, 3 Stars, Atlas, Mad Fox, Port City, etc. There's some other random stuff stashed around the stadium, but those are probably your best bets. Sadly, I've never seen anything from Union available there.
Why is it "sad" that they don't have a middling pale ale by a Baltimore brewery on draft at the WASHINGTON ballpark? You want Union beer go to Bawlmer.
http://thenationalsreview.com/the-nationals-park-beer-guide/ I went last weekend and they had: Atlas - Home Rule Mad Fox - Defender ABA 3 Stars - Two to the Dome Port City - Monumental IPA
If you have time before or after the game you should check out Bluejacket. It is walking distance to the park.
Do they!? Man, I must've missed it last time I was there. I had trouble finding any craft beer that wasn't Flying Dog on my last visit earlier this season.
I dunno if "middling" is the right word. I actually quite enjoy Duckpin, certainly more than most of the hoppy offerings from actual DC breweries. And hey, I've seen Hardywood and Flying Dog stuff at Nats' Stadium, so why not Union!?
Free State Pub. Behind section 50 or so. The Truth, Duckpin, Bloodline, and that Dead Rise abomination on tap. Cans/bottles from tons of MD/DE breweries: Union Dogfish Head Heavy Seas Evolution Raven Brewer's Art more
Considering they only have breweries from the District of Columbia and Union Craft is Baltimore, there is zero chance. I have three extra double duckpins i grabbed saturday in Howard County that are dated 5/26/2015.
I've got some Toppling Goliath PseudoSue at home that says I like GOOD pale ales. I like Zombie Dust and the Trillium Fort Point Pale Ales. Union Suckpin, on the other hand, is pretty "meh" to me.
I understand what you're getting at though. Those I mentioned are hop bombs and maybe not "true" pale ales. Duckpin is a fair representation of the style, a style I typically find a little too tame...
Yup. My palate tends to lean that way too. Drank about 8,000 pints of Hoppy Birthday in San Francisco this summer. Duckpin works for me as a more balanced, almost "classic" type pale ale.
I don't think anyone was saying Duckpin was on the level of, arguably, the 3 best pale ales out there (which could all easily be called IPAs depending on who's classifying). But in terms of what's available and brewed locally, there are far, far worse options than Duckpin.
