here in the washington DC area, Natty Greene's is doing a big launch I guess. I saw a huge stack of their beer in a supermarket (which usually carries crafty or more widely distributed craft beer like New Belgium), my immediate thought was, this reeks of Budweiser craftiness. Without jumping to conclusions, I would like to find out more about them. I found their website to be a lot more clean and professional than most craft breweries have. So my question is, do any of the BMC companies have a stake in Natty Greene's.
    thanks

No. They are private, but market not daring but decent brew. Their concept is to be a fresh easy drinking craft choice at a fair price. You will see a variety of responses here, but the beers are proper. Still, if you can get Highland or Foothills anywhere locally, go with those.

Thanks. I am not concerned honestly what people think if they are a good brewery or not. My concern is that I help run a craft beer drinking club with over 500 members and a lot of people try to market events to us. On Tap Magazine is the biggest culprit of this. However, most of their events feature BMC crafty beers, like random Shock Top tastings. Our group is about drinking craft beer and experiencing it, not to be marketed to by people who want us to try random Blue Moon variants.
I just want to see if Natty Greene's fits into our group ideals. Which is sounds like it does.

We get Highland here in Northern Virginia, as well as Mother Earth and some others, good stuff overall.
    Thanks again.

Natty Greene's isnt great, but it isnt bad. I think they are a solid craft brew. I respect them.

^well said. their six packs contain just "normal" styles of craft brew, but well crafted ones at that. mad respect as well. their cellar/backstage/whatever releases are reflections of a fine imp stout & barleywine, per my experience

I've never been too impressed with their "bigger" beers, but their standard stuff is made pretty well to style. But as to the concern of the OP, they have no connection to BMC.

I like what I have had so far. They make a Baltic Porter that is amazing.

    (No connection to BMC.)

That's a first for me. I've never heard anyone describe any of thier brews as "amazing". Cheers

I'm not sure I would use the word amazing, but they do a very nice job with their sours.

I love Baltic Porters and theirs was one of the better ones I have had. Smuttynose being another. Too bad I can't get these on a regular basis.

You can't get Smuttynose Baltic porter in Oregon? I think my bottle shop still has 3 cases in stock (One of the Best Baltic Porters in my low life opinion).

The thing about Natty Greene's is that their distributed six packs are woeful, and their pub brews in the Raleigh location are incredible.

Ive had some pretty good seasonals at the pub in Greensboro, the best was their DIPA on cask (quite a few years ago) yum!. Agreeed! the regular line up thats available in six packs is not so great.

Good to know. I agree, package stuff is not "exactly" the same. Both pubs have great atmosphere, so the beers and food is easy and good. I'll say that Natty Greene's is great for N.C. and these guys were "way" ahead of this most recent growth of local brewing.

This is one of the places I considered visiting when I was in the Raleigh area in the near future, but was feeling the average ratings of the place might make it something I could skip:

Should I make an effort to visit the brewpub, or are there other options I should consider first? (note: I don't want to steal the OP topic, so if you have input, please respond to in the referenced thread)

I saw on Twitter that they plan to release the American Sour again on Sept. 21. Does anybody know anything about the details? Brewpub only or into limited distribution at our favorite local stores?

Thanks for the post. I tried them just after they had opened the Raleigh location. I need to give them another try.
