So the last BIF I did (12 Beers of Xmas) was focused on drinking beer the day you unwrapped it. That was a great idea and experience but now I want to switch it up. This BIF will give participants a chance to really shake things up in their cellar. (But also give something to drink now.) Here are the requirements I am thinking (open to discussion and change):

-160 oz minimum of age worthy beer. No maximum.
-2 brewery only/limited release age-able beers. Hopefully we get a wide enough distribution to be able to mainly use age-able beers that are readily available.
-2 age worthy beers. You know the styles and beers that are the classics
-2 pre-aged beers. This doesn't have to be anything crazy, just something good you've got in your cellar.
    -Brewery swag. Glasses, Shirts, etc.

While this BIF will be centered around beers that are age-able, thats not the only part. The age-able beer part accounts for less than half of the total volume. The rest can be taken up with IPA's, wheat beers, anything your target would like, even though that might be duplicates of age-able beers or whatever. There's plenty of room for creativity depending on your targets preferences.

And here are some suggestions that could make it fun:
-Remember the first rule of cellaring beer: drink one, save one. At the same time, while sending multiples of everything would be ideal it is far from possible for a lot of good beers.
    -Mini-verticals are always welcome.
-Remember the styles that are meant to be aged: old ales, bareywines, imperial stouts, sours
-While to goal is to send beers to be aged, send some stuff to drink now.

Anyone, regardless of trade history, will be allowed to join. Those with less than 5 trades or 2 BIF participations will be asked to ship a week before the others, and their sender will ship when the shipment is confirmed. The timeline for this BIF, while depending on interest and such, should be about two weeks (~January 21st) to acquire targets and about 2 months (end of March/beginning of April) for the shipping windows. I'll set soft dates at January 21st for having targets and the week of March 29th-April 4th as beginner shipping week and April 5th-April 11th for the rest of the crowd shipping week. I'll see what kind of response we get but I'd like to see between 20-40 people and I'll put a cap at 50.

If you would like to join; send me a BM with Beer Cellar BIF as title. Include:
    -Name and shipping address
    -Any do not ship dates
-Let me know if you are a beginning trader or BIFer
    -Shirt size
-Any beer related things not on BA i.e. Untappd username, updated CELLAR LINK etc
-A short description of what kind of beers you like to drink aged, bucket list beers, style preferences, and any general information you might like your sender to know.

Hopefully we get enough interest to put put something together. Ask questions through the thread and join through BM.

    Cheers!

I wish I could do this but unsure I would meet the requirements. I'm excited to watch!

I love this idea so much, but are you aware that your shipping window overlaps directly with Stouts IV? If you made it May or even June, I would jump in in a heartbeat, but I'm definitely not going to miss another round of that BIF and sadly don't know if I can take on two pretty epic boxes at the exact same time.

Not asking you to change it solely on my account by any means; but if, as I'd imagine, others are in the same position as me (want to do both but not concurrently) it might be a good idea to stretch it out a bit longer. As we saw with 12 Days, a super long time from targets to shipping is not necessarily a bad thing, we had a ton of fun in there even before boxes started flying.

And @Littlelotte88 what's up with snagging the first reply? Don't you know that's my job?:stuck_out_tongue:

From what I remember you definitely plenty of beers that would meet the qualifications of this for the 12 days. The only one I can see being a problem would be aged beer and I am sure there are plenty of people who would gladly help you if needed a beer or two for you target.

I did not know I was overlapping that shipping window. I think I will change it; I was actually considering a later date in the first place. I think that people in that BIF might have similar interests with this one.

That's exactly what I was thinking. As big as these BIF boxes have gotten lately it's prohibitive to do more than one in any given month, and having a month in between to spread out shopping is ideal. With the Stouts in April and 12 Days planning a Summer box in July (I'm hoping we combine this with the next 'big' round of The Locals), I'd say May/June would be ideal for this.

I've sitting on an idea or two myself, and I'll do mine for whichever of those two months you don't pick. I'd love to do every one of these, but I may have to sit one out to avoid over-committing myself.

I've been getting some people questioning if they have enough to "qualify" for this BIF. I just want to clarify nothing has to be a whale or super rare. I know beers such as founders curmudgeon actually peak at 8 months old so thats something that would qualify as long as you feel its something you feel your target would enjoy (especially for someone out of founders distro)

I might do it, or I might just stalk. I'm REALLY trying not to buy any more beer so this works, the question is if I manage to get to the time this starts without drinking (or more likely, BIFing elsewhere) stuff I have that meets your criteria. I will lurk for now...

Just to clarify: is there any limit on the age of the brewery only/limited release (BO/LR if I can make up an acronym?) beers? Are they expected to be the same beer, or can they be different? Can they be the same beer, but different vintages? If I can grab a BO/LR now, but the shipping window isn’t until the beginning of May, would this be ok?

Sorry for all the questions, and it seems like you may have covered these in your suggestions, but I just wanted to put them out there in case my assumptions are incorrect.

    Really looking forward to this!

Yeah the brewery only/limited can be very flexible as to what it is. They certainly don't have to be the same beer, and using two vintages of the same beer is a great idea, especially if that beer is something your target wants. And the beer can be from anytime, I certainly have some options in the cellar depending on my target, but of course with such a long time till we ship there as definitely some releases that could change things.

As with all BIFs the guidelines are more for just pushing the theme of the BIF, the main point is to give your target the best possible box. So when targets go out their wants become the most important thing in deciding what to send.

Looking like some good people jumping in. A few veterans from SWTFYW rounds, a couple new comers and some people from sports BIFs. Looks like all the 12 days people are on the fence. I hope you decide to join though after seeing that Advent box you sent out.

Looks like Pennsylvania is crazy about this one, 3 people already from there.

Still looking for a little love from the northeast @Littlelotte88 or @Mikexw ? Also still would be great to get people from the south and northwest

I'm still undecided, although that later time frame helps. It depends on how much it overlaps with the Locals. And I know there is a 160oz max, the problem for me is the ridiculous max we will probably end up with.

That being said, I AM watching this thread, so once things get close I might commit (and I suspect any list you have now will change dramatically between now and then).

I think it'd be a fun twist on a BIF to not send the OP your info, and make the senders find someone to give it to them

If this was housed inside The Locals or one of those I'd consider doing this, but instead I'll do what I'm supposed to just in case my sender is one of those that doesn't hang out in one of those threads.

Im in and excited for my first BIF. Info has been sent to @SportsandJorts.

I'll be an easy guy to make happy since I only started trading recently and before that had only really been exposed to CA beer and the bigger distro items.

Been slowly picking my way through the locals thread, a couple pages a day. Looks like a good time..... but I am afraid it might be growing faster than I can read it.
