We've all heard it before. Drink local! Supporting local breweries is a great way to find really good beer and support a local business. Beer fests and get togethers often include local breweries showcasing what they have. I would like to gauge the interest on BA's who would like to BIF local otherwise unobtainable in other areas beer. I'll be happy to organize the whole thing send out targets, set up minimum reqs and so on. I think this would be a great way to have beer many of us would arguably never gotten to try.

I'd be interested in that, besides the big/buzzy names like Dogfish Head and Tired Hands, there's some very good breweries in my area that don't get very far.

I think it's important to ignore BA rating and go with "I really like this one" instead. It's great to get high-rated beer, but I think that would alienate a lot of worthy breweries that better fit the "local otherwise unobtainable" description.

To use a local example, Yards has some pretty solid beers, Brawler, Pale Ale, and IPA are good, very true to style English beers, and their Beers of the Revolution are very unique. These are all in the mid-80s, but are all well worth trying, and Yards doesn't distribute outside the immediate area (and even that's pretty recent).

tl;dr count me in, but let's not get ridiculous with expectations of mid-90s ranked beer.

Count me in the group being interested. I've always been interested in receiving IPAs during the Summer months but getting one that is 6 months old is never good. I actually have been maybe too picky when selecting IPA extras for trades and may be more relaxed. A 4 week old Ninja vs. Unicorn is still a solid beer.

Love the locals idea. There are a dozen or so in Columbus alone. I'll throw out the idea of having a max to go with the min. We don't want to hurt our very helpful delivery personnel.

Yes I agree, the main point of this should be to share beer from local breweries, not a rankfest.

EDIT: @kgncfl I agree with also having a max

A max? but I want to destroy someone's porch! Ah well, it's probably not a bad idea since spending $60 on shipping for a bunch of random locals does seem a little silly.

Can I ask that you drag your feet on this a little, or at least give a wide shipping range? This one sounds really cool but I don't want to get over my head, I've managed to get into three other BIFs in the last couple weeks.

I would be interested. I have three of four local breweries that only have distro in two or three surronding cities

I'll look at what I feel is a reasonable max and after some consideration ask all whom are interested what they would like as the max. I'll probably give 2 options and an open ended answer. I intend on grabbing as many participants for this as possible and getting alot of feedback so this can run as smoothly as possible so don't worry about the time frame just yet, though I will say I don't want it to drag out so long we lose interest and can't get this done.

I'd be interested, although I guess it depends how widely you definite "local". I've got about 5 breweries within an hour, but only one or two of them bottle anything. If I expand to 3-5 hours away, I can get lots of stuff that I wouldn't call local, but that has very limited distribution (ie, 2 or 3 states).

I would say local is considered anything within a reasonable distance from you that isn't widely distributed. I think 3 hours is more than reasonable. I planned on making a trip of a decent distance.

I might be in for this. I think local should be close to you but more importantly, not available in your targets area.

I woudl be interested. Hopefully my target likes draft beer as my favorite local doesn't bottle. Luckily our growler shop sells 16 ounce bottles and fills!

I'm also interested. I'm more down for trying new stuff than whale hunting, so this is right up my alley.
