I have read through enough of these BIF threads to know at least one thing. That I WANT to be in one really bad, but since I have not been in a BIF before it’s hard to find one that will allow me to participate. Most have a three BIF minimum, which is completely understandable. So now we are going to switch it up. This one is for BAs that have 1) Never been in a BIF before, or 2) have only participated in one before.

The intent of this is not to be difficult, so I chose a format from a previous BIF that appeared easy enough and toned it down a little bit (reduced the bottle amount). Thanks can be given to Cuzco on the format which appears to just be a traditional style BIF

A 6 bottle shipper will be sent with 2 bottles of 3 different styles of beer. 22oz/750ml bottles or 2 12oz bottles of the same beer to equal one 22oz will be acceptable.

The styles will be Stout, Ale/Barleywine, and IPA

I will ship the first box out to the first target.

The target MUST pick one bottle from each category.

They MUST replace the beers they choose with bottles of the same style and the same (or higher) value/quality.

Replacement beers must have an 85 or above BA score.

There can be no duplicate beers (unless you are going with 2 12oz bottles) in an outgoing box.

You should take your target's wants/distribution into account when replacing the bottles. I will try to set targets outside of each others distribution area.

In other words you will be getting 3 bottles and sending 3 bottles! No extras/no swag!

First Box will be shipping after the 4th of July!

Must be first timer or have only one BIF under your belt.

Going to cap this one @ 10 BAs!

I realize that we are doing this for Noobs and we will all be taking a chance for lack of references and BIF experience. I don’t think there should be any problems as long as everyone who participates can fulfill their obligation. Basically, if you don’t think you can handle it save us all the trouble and don’t sign up.

This should be a good opportunity to get a BIF under your belt.

Why not just scrap the idea of swapping out 3 beers? Choosing 3 might be difficult for someone, especially if the goal is to send quality stuff/wants. This reminds me of the Willpower LIF, which was(is?) a great show of advocacy, but that objective here, especially in a BIF targeting BAs new to BIFs, seems like it would detract from the fun of receiving a great BIF box, somewhat. Also, its quite possible that some of the beer you ship first, makes it all the way back to you, which might not be fun for you. Since you're requiring IPAs as well, what if an IPA gets skipped over a few times, finally gets snagged, and now its a month or two older than it was and the recipient didn't enjoy it? Traditional BIFs are great to be able to pick a target most suitable for you, but having to leaving something's in leaves a lot of room for forced cross-distribution and beers being passed over more times.

I hope you don't think I'm trying to negatively criticize you. I think it's awesome that you're running this, everyone needs to experience how awesome BIFs are, and I think transitional BIFs are the best...and I'd totally join if I could  I just think it would be less complicated, and everyone would enjoy getting and being able to keep everything the receive a lot better!

    Cheers,
    Evan

I see what your saying and I am aware of these facts. Choosing only 3 out of the 6 IMO SHOULD be difficult, even if all 6 are on your wants list. I also realize that some beer may end up back in the box shipped to me, and I would be fine with that with the knowledge of what I will be sending first. No duplicate beer can be sent out and the same beer cannot be put back in that was taken out. I'm going to limit the time that each person has to ship to a fairly small window. Some BAs in this have already sent me dates that would not be good for them to receive or send out a box for various reasons and I will do everything in my limited power to accommodate them.

Most important I just want this to be successful and fun. Nothing too complicated, but get all 10 of us familiar with BIFs and hopefully gain some references/future trading partners.

I do not take anything negatively. All criticism is constructive to me, and I encourage it as this is my first BIF as well. I appreciate your input but I'm going to stick with the format simply because I already have enough people interested and seemed to like it.

    Thanks
    CJ
