NBS BIF #5 sign-up thread

I've done a couple of across the border trades - for FedEx to ship to Ontario was in excess of $100US. The same package (10 -12 bombers) cost $ 60 + by UPS. Also, shipping 'way north can be problematic before May. Otherwise, I'm all for it.

 

We are pretty much through our winter now. It's 38 degrees here today and I just received a box with no issues. Most I pushed it this winter was down to about 2 degrees and I still didn't have the contents freeze on me with a styroshipper.

I'd be happy to send to the Great White North. I'm more nervous about the logistics side of it vs. the $$ side.

I have a couple of concerns with the NBS BIF participants.

NBS is a thread where we review new (to us) beers and share our thoughts with others. The participants' review histories are helpful in determining potential new beers for us to sent them. Granted, we all have had many more beers than we've reviewed, but at least it's a starting point.

I feel that participants should have a history of posting reviews on NBS before being permitted to participate in a NBS BIF. How long a history? That would be arbitrary, but I'd suggest at least 10. Reviews on other websites could be considered.

My goal is not to deny anyone access to NBS BIF, but to ensure that it's more than just a way to get some new beers. For most of us that have participated in the previous NBS BIFs, that has not been a problem. I would suggest for those that have taken part in the BIF portion previously but not the NBS portion, non-participation in this event until they have met minimum requirements for a newbie.

Just my thoughts. Now I have to go duck and cover.

I might be guilty of missing a few reviews on some I have received in every round, Especially true of last round, when a bunch of reviews I scribbled when sharing the beers with friends later came up unreadable (I still hope to translate the ideograms and post them though) But the point is we should def. join this BIF with the idea of posting reviews of beers we receive, in NBS and also into the database.

 

I know I've been SUPER guilty of fully reviewing beers I've received in the past. I've always done NBS posts, but I've never been great at remembering to write a review, rather than just ranking it and "ticking" it. I am working on writing more reviews with all new beers I drink so I will promise to review damn near every beer I receive this round!
