I just picked up one of my favorite Pale Ales - Dale's. Usually it is a few months old and often older than that according to the canning date on the bottom of the can. This one from Bestway in Greensboro is only 3 weeks old. I wondering if this new freshness is due to the new brewery Oscar Blues is now operating in Brevard. It will be interesting to see if this makes a noticeable difference in the taste.

I've seen Dale's in NC as fresh as a few days old and that was well before they announced the new brewery. Now that they're actually brewing there (as of 12/12/12) we will definitely start seeing fresher stuff in NC on a regular basis. I'm chomping at the bit to get some Deviant Dale's within a few days of canning. That stuff is amazing when super fresh.

Fresh Deviant Dale's is amazing. I've never had "couple day old" Dales Pale Ale, probably just a couple months old, so that would be good to taste fresh.

I think when Deviant hit shelves, it was still around a week old. at least from what i remember.

Seems like the freshest I can find around here was canned on 8-24. Not that it's a bad beer at a few months old, but it goes from hopbomb to maltbomb really quick. I saw it only once at less than a week old and it was absolutely delicious.

To OP, I don't think that it is from the NC brewery as that will say Brevard NC on the can, and they are just brewing their first batch as of last week. I will say that we do often in NC get their goodies pretty fresh as is, but nothing like we will get in the next three months or so! Keep your eyes peeled, as soon as that can says North Carolina you can bet that Deviant will be so fresh you'll need to watch the enamel on your teeth! It's great to be a beer geek in NC!

From Tony Kiss, Asheville Citizen-Times Beer Columnist:

The new Oskar Blues brewery in Brevard is sure to be a lively spot on New Year's Eve. They've already sold 800 tickets for the party featuring the band Jupiter Coyote. The brewery can handle up to 1,200 merrymakers, I'm told. The plan is to serve some small batch beers from the pilot brewery, and maybe the first Dale's and Mama's Little Yella Pils made in Brevard, if it's ready. They'll also have all seven flagship beers from the Colorado brewery. Get your tickets now at www.oskarbluesNCNYE.eventbrite.com

Thanks. I hadn't noticed the location listing on the can before but you are right. I'll be looking forward to the NC Dale's Pale. BTW for those in the Greensboro area - Sticks and Stones had Deviant Dale on draft as one of their rotating taps. Get it while its fresh.

    Update on NYE:

On New Year's Eve the new Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard will be serving a keg of Golden Noah, a Belgian pale made by head brewer Noah Tuttle before he left Colorado to work at the Brevard operation. It will be one of eight beers on tap in the tasting room: Dale's Pale, Mama's Little Yella Pils, Old Chub, G'Knight, Gubna, TenFidy and Deviant Dales. The Oskar Blues brewers are keeping mum for now on details about the small batch beers being made on the pilot system.
