This topic is being addressed in several threads at once, so I thought it would be best to bring all the love and hate into one. HDR is the hot topic these days, but there are multiple breweries across the state making top-notch hop-bombs. I know there are a a lot there (and I'm sure I'm missing quite a few), but the list below is intended to be the start of a contender list. All IMO of course.

Happy to the hear the thoughts of my fellow BA's.

    IPAs
    • Burial - Scythe (I know it's Rye and could be in its own category)
    • Carolina - Hop Roar
    • Foothills - Jade
    • Highland - IPA
    • NoDa - Hop, Drop n' Roll
    • Triple C - 3C IPA
    • Wicked Weed - Pernicious

    DIPAs
    • Lynnwood - Hubris
    • Trophy - Double Death Spiral
    • Wicked Weed - Freak of Nature

The 3 that have stood out to me this year have been Highlands new IPA, Burial Vice single hop simcoe, and Burial Massacre Of the Innocents.

Pernicious and Jade are my favorites. Consistent and delicious.

I think one could make an argument for Wedges's Iron Rail and Pisgah's Greybeard as well.

I've enjoyed several of Trophy's other IPAs about as much or more than Death Spiral.

    Teacher's Pet
    Hop Shake
    G'Day IPA

Also think Hop on Top by Lynnwood is great.

You could add Highland King MacAlpin to the DIPA list.

Second Highland's new IPA. Really delicious, clear bottling date on the label, unbelievable prices as compared to other quality IPAs.

Legit list, I agree with pretty much all of them. Highland did a great job on the new IPA.

The dipa burial had on around the ww white angel release was soo good. Can't remember the name but it started with an "M". Medusa maybe? Wish that was on more often when I come up to burial!

    I love some Pernicious..

I also tend to think, and granted I've only had them at the brewery pretty dang fresh, and in bottles that were just done, but Nantahala's NoonDay and 4ft drop are pretty dang refreshing and good.

Now I need to hunt down the new highland everyone is raving for.

I agree with both of these, but I think since you can't get these in the entire state people sleep on them. I had a keg of Greybeard at my wedding a couple years ago.

We should probably add Fonta Flora HopBeard to the list. Definitely a good one. Wasn't a big fan of Wedge's Iron Rail. Haven't had Scythe yet. Freak is always at the top of my list. Heist has one called Orange you Hoppy that's pretty good as well.

Anybody try the Cotton Pickin' IPA from Haw River? Haven't had it yet but pretty much everything they put out has been really tasty, wondering how it stacks up.

It was great, but it's a brett IPA and is really funky. A little different than the others mentioned but certainly a good beer.

Close call but Scythe is my favorite.

I'd also add Burial Surf Wax and Nantahala Noonday.

I can't recall if I had surf wax at the brewery it not now, but this summer Nantahala got a torpedo from Sierra Nevada and it has made their IPA something awesome
