Makes sense. I know they like to time batches to line up with submitting bottles for competitions a lot of times.

I'm not going to lie... The "new" Highland IPA is delicious. Very good IPA, and who can't love the big bold bottled on date.

Two weeks old, and it's a fantastic beer, and for a great price. Hard to beat it for easy to find, available, and affordable.

ABC makes the best IPAs in Asheville... very awesome stuff.

The bottle of Massacre of the Innocents I had was fantastic, top-tier hoppy beer in the state for sure. Had the new batch of Hubris again and it's just as good as I thought the first time. God knows how much I will spend on that beer in the next month.

I know the place you speak of. Had some last night there. Very solid IPA for sure, but I've had some better for my palate.

A little let down with this batch of Hubris compared to the last and, as a result, bailed on the idea of having a second glass @ LBC, opting for a glass of Putin Tang instead. Glad I made that choice. I also planned on a growler refill when I showed up but there way no way I was going to drop $30 for a Hubris refill this time around. Maybe next batch? Anyway... I just moved Double Death Spiral above Hubris in terms of current batches.

In Reston today for work bruh...Ocelot is on the way home and I can hang out there with a buddy that works for Ocelot...

Hmm, bunch of my friends in RDU have not said anything about it not being as good as the last batch, hell I got a bottle in a trade in the fall, it was 3 months old? Still very, very good. I'll just wait on my friends getting bottles in March, they're getting beers from me next week as well.

Maybe my taste buds were tainted from the Hopslam I had on Tuesday night? :sunglasses:

Couldn't disagree more. Particularly about DDS, which I've moved down so far it has fallen off my list completely. It blows my mind someone would take it over Hubris currently, but to each their own.

I haven't tried it yet, but I see Raleigh Brewing is taking a stab at a DIPA. Rightly called Test Batch #1.

Bingo! And, I guess your mind would have really have been blown away by the others at the table who had the very same impression regarding this batch of Hubris. Curious about what others think though as history seems to indicate that @CavemanRamblin and I wouldn't agree on what color the sky is on a clear day.

@KRubes Anxious to give Raleigh Brewing's version a go as I completely fell in luv with their BA version of the Miller's Toll. Different animal completely from a DIPA I know but definitely curious.

I haven't had DDS since they opened Maywood. Hopefully it hasn't gone downhill....one of my favorites. I also noticed that Trophy have a new IPA - Super Dub, thats on their board at the brewpub. Will have to try to get down there to check it out.

I've only had DDS once and it was not too long ago. I wasn't very impressed. Cloying and malty. Hopefully it was just an off batch.

    ^ It's all good.

Likewise and as my credit card will attest, I drink a fair amount of beer and try as best I can to be impartial when I try new crafty's. In terms of this batch of Hubris, I was really focused on this batch because I had Double Death Spiral for the 1st time last Saturday and, I agree with you, it had more of a malt backbone along the lines of this year's Hopslam which I am ok with. That's not my preferred style but I'm fine with it now and again. AnyWho... the funny (or strange?) thing is when I tried DDS on Saturday I thought to myself, this reminds me a bit of the last batch of Hubris I had last fall. Then on Tuesday when I had a glass of Hubris from the current batch I went into it thinking that it was going to reaffirm my perspective that it had a similar, somewhat sweet angle to it similar to that which I experienced with DDS. But, that was not the case. I dunno? I was just expecting a bit of a sweeter malt twist to this batch of Hubris based on my experience / perspective from last fall's batch.

Not intending to in any way bash Hubris but it's a pricey beer and for that premium I just couldn't bring myself with parting with $30 for a growler of it. Perhaps I'll give this batch another go given the opportunity? We'll see but I do hope that some other guys will chime with their experiences if they have had the opportunity to have tried both Hubris and DDS recently.

I can't imagine any beer that isn't insanely limited being worth $30 for 64 oz. That's more than twice the price of Hopslam, with none of the packaging costs.
