Agree 100%. Brewery Bhavana beers and their food offerings are both fantastic. Can't wait to go back!

Pretty sweet to have fresh Hawkbill and Surf Wax at the same time.

Bought one of those Foothills mixed packs last week, hadn't had the Double Trouble in a good while, was better than I remembered it.

Actually an odd topic for a thread. What is my 'favorite' IPA today, may be not my first choice tomorrow. Nothing changed with the beer, or nothing new with today's choice as favorite.

In my limited choices with only 70 plus breweries in the area, and probably 100+ IPA's, what is my 'must have' today may be further down the my list tomorrow.

I have a number of local favorites, and they are frequently sitting side by side in the refrigerator. Some may sit there for a week or two, then one time I open the door, and it becomes "oh yea, that's the best on the shelf", or on the 3 - 5 days a week we visit local breweries, it's a "I wanna go to Pisgah for a Greybeard, or the Wedge for an Iron Rail.

The best drinking IPA in NC. The one in my hand at the time you pose the question. It's all good and all different, and that is why it's the best.

Funny, I just realize I called it Double Trouble (which is a Founders beer) instead of Seeing Double.

I was pretty impressed with the new Mother Earth Oatmeal IPA. It isn't quite a NE-Style IPA, but they borrowed a lot of popular NE-Style IPA techniques in brewing it (flaked oats, few bittering hops, late/dry hopped citra and mosaic). Worth checking out, especially since it is at a decent price.

I keep waiting for them to put it in 16 oz cans. Who puts D/IPAs in bombers anymore? :stuck_out_tongue:

    Ted does!!!

Anyone else disappointed with Trophy's latest "great" IPA? I got a lot of malt - just like all their other IPAs/DIPAs.

Which IPA is that? Because I got the one with boxing gloves on it and I found it too sweet for my liking. Wasnt sure if that was the malt or that it was brewed with honey. Probably both.

Double Death Spiral in a 16oz can. It is weird because I liked it a lot better on draft - did not get so much malt as form the can.

Anyone try Wilmington's two recent Milkshake IPA's, Mugsy's Mangoes or the Passion Fruit Milkshake? I typically don't like the milkshake style, but I thought both were solid fruit and hop resin forward surprises.

Good thing we are at least getting consistent mikkeller NEIPAs on draft and in cans to make up for the inconsistency in the triangle.

Trophy really only seems to nail the style on their 3-5bbl system at Trophy Morgan St. I really wish they would just focus on substance over sheer quantity of beers and styles they are passing off as "must try". Aside from Trophy Wife, which for the price is pretty solid (6er for $10), I haven't bought anything from them (cans or draft) in a long time.

I preferred Mugsy's Mangoes as I thought the fruit played better with the hops, but agreed that both were solid! hope they keep them coming.

Agreed. Crazy to think relatively old cans from a brewery in San Diego is miles ahead of a local brewery like Trophy that is clearly trying to jump on the NEIPA train (scout series, clouds due, etc.) but can't for the life of them get it right. I was optimistic when they collaborated with Night Shift and Finback (two breweries with solid if not world-class reputations in the NEIPA department) hoping they would teach Trophy a thing or two, but both of those collabs were buttery disasters.

I'm not exaggerating when I say Trophy should really reconsider their brewer talent. It's fine if they didn't ever attempt to be in the NEIPA club — and many other breweries are happily sitting the craze out — but every time they swing and miss I think less and less of their outfit.

Granted I and my tastebuds are spoiled from the last 4 years of living and drinking in NYC/New England, but seriously, Triangle, can't somebody figure this thing out?!

Side note: No offense but when Hubris is what passes for a highly-anticipated beer around here we truly have a LONG way to go.
