I think Southern Pines makes some solid IPAs. I wouldn't put them in the "Top Tier" for hazy IPAs in the state (Heist, New Anthem, Burial, High Branch, Resident Culture, etc), but I would put them as a solid contributor in the second tier.

Their -Kiss series is always solid and they have other good NE or Milkshake IPAs from time to time.

Quite frankly I have never had any of SoPi's NEIPA offerings (and, to date, have only had imited exposure to their IPA offerings) but I posted the link as there seemed to be some interest being expressed above regarding SoPi's NEIPA's and this was a local RTP event. I'm completely onboard with your tier 1 list at this point. The kewl thing is we seemingly appear to be in a period where breweries are being pressured to bring their "A game" in the NEIPA space as people are becoming more discerning (i.e., they aren't necessarily just drinking anything hazy with an orange-ish hue). To me, we are rolling more and more into a "publish or perish" period. At least I hope we are and it is not just wishful thinking on my part.

Ancillary Fermentation’s second release is tonight. Looking forward to his new juicy ipa. Cats out of the bag was a delicious hit.

Time to throw another one into the batch. Not quite as amazing as the first release, but still solid.

Now I will say I haven't had this one before, but the Friendly Advice collaboration between New Anthem and Casita is seriously lit.

I really really liked second hand from ancillary. I’m actually thinking more than cats out of the bag. Not sure. Needs a second and third taste together.

Looks like this thread hasn't been updated in a bit, but have to say, Burial's To Streak Blood Across my Brow is damn delicious. Hazy, tropical Galaxy hops for days. Really happy about them opening up the tap/shop in Raleigh.

Burial’s IPAs have been really good lately. But did anyone else notice this batch of savages is off? The color is really dark, seems a little flat and definitely does not taste as good as the last batch.

I had the same observation, at least compared to what I had on draft at State of Beer when they did the mobile taproom.

Looks like turd water (aka a veil beer)and tastes ok, not as good as other batches.

It’s definitely not the same beer. Savages is on of my favorite ipas they do. It looks oxidized. They have been awfully quiet about it. Burial has always been really good about dealing with quality issues. I bought 2 4 packs and drain poured the one can I’ve opened.

Hey guys - hoping you can help me as I'm a huge IPA person. I'm going to be in downtown Charlotte this weekend, staying at the Westin. What's the best bottle shop to pick some stuff up to take home around downtown/the Westin (if anything)? Crowlers or cans (prefer a place that sells singles), doesn't matter. I'm trying to take a trip out to Resident Culture & Heist too.

That one was back to the original recipe so it changed a little since the last time they brewed it. I personally enjoyed that one.

I bought two 4 packs of savages and have only opened one can. It was really bad.

Everything else I’ve had from them has been good tho. And it’s still my favorite brewery in Asheville.

Savages did indeed suck, but the Other Half collab was fantastic and To Streak Blood is pretty darn good too.

Burial loves to tinker with recipes, so there's no guarantee it will even be the same beer from one batch to another.

I remember when Massacre of the Innocents first came out (bottled release back in '15 or '16), it was a slightly funky farmhouse IPA. Somewhere along the lines it morphed into a hazy NE-IPA. I kinda wish Burial would label their batches 1.0, 2.3, etc. so you could differentiate between different recipes, but that's just me.

Little City in Raleigh is making some pretty solid west coast ipa’s. Their mosaic session is particularly good.

Heist and Resident Culture in Charlotte, Scythe is no longer brewed, but Buriel is top notch.
