I'm going to be in Edgewood, IA from 18-25 Dec for Christmas and looking for the best bottles shops in that area to pick up some beers to bring back to San Diego. I don't really know much about the distro in the area so let me know where the best places are. Thanks for your help.

You are close to Prairie du Chien so go to Starks. They have tons of New Glarus and other Wisconsin brews like Central Waters and Ale Asylum to name a few. Also Toppling Goliath, Founders and others not usually found in rural areas.

The options are somewhat limited. I'm from Dubuque so I'll give you my usual beer trip when I head back home. I think your option for the widest variety of Midwest beer would be to head to East Dubuque, Illinois. It's right across the Mississippi from Dubuque and has two bottle shops(Vans and Family Beer and Liqour). I'd recommend Family Beer in East Dubuque, big selection and they offer the ability to mix any of there beers in 6ers. It also carries Illinois distrobution so they have some good things you can't get in Iowa. Vans isn't bad either smaller selection but you can find some gems. If you were looking for Bourban County they may still have some.

After hitting up East Dubuque I usually take the easy 15 minute drive north over the Wisconsin border and head to a little town called Dickeyville, Wisconsin, it's right off HWY 151 so it's quick to get to. But there's a grocery store off the main strip called "Kieler Grocery", they have a good selection of WI beer. They usually have all the core New Glarus offering and fruit beers, they don't usually have the rarer seasonal a though. Central Waters is available at these two stores and I'd highly recommend the BB barleywine and stout, there an excellent bargain.

If your feeling ambitious and have the whole day I'd say swing by Toppling Goliath too, probably would add an extra 3 hours to your round trip if your heading there from the Dubuque area. The other poster mentioned Starks in Praire du Chein, it's about the same drive time from Edgewood as is Dubuque/east Dubuque, but I think you'll find a wider selection in East Dubuque. But if you wanted to hit up Toppling Goliath it will save you time going to Praire du Chein.

    Hope this helps!

I do know Family Liquor. We always go there for our alcohol purchases and was planning on checking them out again when I'm home. I'll have to look up Kieler and Vans and see what they have. I am also planning on making a pilgrimage to Topling Goliah while I'm there. I've never been so I feel like it's a must. Thank you for the tips they will come in handy.
