NE IPA recipe thoughts?

    I've never tried using less hops but I suppose I'll have to try it to see if I can agree with you or not. Are you saying this from experience or something that can be referenced here? Just want to make sure you aren't saying this as an untested opinion which people seem to post on here. In my experience the more hops per gallon the more aromatic my beers have been but I'm sure there is a drop off point where gains are minimal for the hops used. Havent found that number yet.

    Everyone's personal preference is different as well as beer styles vary and so do the ingredients required to produce such beer. I can speak from experience @Prep8611. I have made NEIPA with 16 ounces of hops and less and I can tell you from my personal experience I notice a huge difference from 16oz to 22-24oz in flavor, aroma, and the length of time before they fall off, but everyone's preference/palate is different.

    Update...

    Brew day went ok, mashed in at 153, The wort was a brown haze,I also added a 5 minute 1 oz hop edition of galaxy. I used a immersion chiller for the first time and it chilled the wort quickly past my 180 steep/whirlpool hop edition within in a few minutes, I got caught napping so to speak. I went with this step at 160 with 2 oz of galaxy, 1 oz of mosaic lupuln2 and citra lupuln2 for 30 minutes. My OG should have been 1083 and It was 1074 with 72 efficiency in beersmith. I pitched the starter at 68 degrees and it appears to be going nuts. I am crossing my fingers on this one.

    I know someone already mentioned it (sort of), but I'll go a little further and say that 5.2 doesn't work. There is no magic buffer combination that will take every mash to 5.2 (or any other constant pH for that matter). I recommend using a good mash pH calculator and building your water accordingly using appropriate salts/acids for any given recipe.

    Sweetness and high fg? 1318 ferments within a point of 1056.

    Mashed at 154 8% beer with no sugar? Love to know where it finishes. 1.016 or higher? For me 1318 would be perceived as much sweeter than 1056 even at the same gravity.

    my neipas I mash at 152 with a 5.3-5.4 ph and OGs range 1.073-1.076 and it finishes around 1.014-1.016 (I find 1.016 to be the sweet spot on these styles for me) and they are not sweet one bit nor have I ever had any complaints (which I have taken to local breweries for input on them) I also use 2-2.5lbs of flaked wheat and 2-2.5lbs of flaked oats in mine with no "odd tastes" I think with these beers if the salt/acid additions are done properly mixed with the flaked oats/wheat these beers have an excellent mouth feel and taste amazing. Have you ever tried any of these styles of beers or brewed any?

    How are we wasting money on hops? As I have stated previously that there is a noticeable difference in flavor and aroma when using "ridiculous amounts of hops" in these beers. I have brewed them with much less and also in the middle of this range and I find the sweet spot to be in the 22-24oz range, but everyone's palate is different and every one enjoys different things so I don't feel that you need to knock some ones home brew style and basically say they are doing it wrong. From experience with brewing this style beer I feel the OP's NEIPA recipe will yield an excellent juicy and tropical citrus bomb.
