While I have been in this game for some time now and have found that I drink way more IPAs/DIPAs than I thought I did thanks to some of the poll threads on here and actually stopping to think about it, outside of the popular ones (Two Hearted, Racer 5, Dirt Wolf, DFH, Lagunitas, SN...) I don't know a whole heck of a lot about many of the other ones at this point, especially some of the newer ones. I have been hearing a lot about the so called New England IPAs, with them being unfiltered as a main characteristic. I see that Stone will be coming out with an Unfiltered Enjoy By and EB is usually pretty easy to get in my area so I will definitely be giving that a try:

So while I am familiar with a few of the beers that fit into this category, the NE IPAs seem to be a little difficult to obtain (especially in my area) so can someone give me some suggestions on some others that I may be able to get a hold of and something that would taste similar to a NE IPA? I am in the Philly area.

You can find hill farmstead on draft in the city. Use philly tap finder to find a bar currently carrying them.

Just go to Tired Hands in Ardmore, believe me. World class beer, and their IPAs/DIPAs are comparable to a lot of stuff out of the NE area.

Thank you both for the suggestions! Do you know of anything in bottle or can format easily accessible to us too?

I have no suggestions for can/bottle but I just wanted to chime in with my suggestion of Tired Hands and Hill Farmstead as well.

Below are four hoppy beers that are on tap at Tired Hands Fermentaria and they all read tasty to me:

    Pineal:

Oat IPA. 6.0% IPA transcendentally hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo, and a bit of Simcoe for good measure. A perennial favorite that helps pry open that third eye.

-Notes of intense tropical fruit, firm pine, ruby red grapefruit, and honeysuckle.

    Toy Dogs & Yachts:

Crushable Azacca IPA. 4.4% Brewed with oats, rye, and spelt. Hopped intensely and singularly with Azacca. The third beer in our extravagance series.

-Notes of citrus skin, passionfruit, guava, grassy, mint spice, and light melon.

    Trendler IPL:

Crushable India Pale Lager. 4.2% Brewed with Munich malts. Hopped intensely with Mandarina Bavaria, Amarillo, and Simcoe. Es ist ein hoppy Lagerbier.

-Notes of sappy pine, fresh bread, m ango marmalade, citrus zest, and fresh cut grass.

    Hop-A-Tact:

India Brown Ale. 7.6% Brewed with Vienna, oats, and dark wheat. Hopped intensely with Simcoe, Lemon Drop, Centennial, and Chinook. Static Cat.

-Notes of fresh cut grass, deep pine, mango jam., lemon zest and lightly roasted coffee

I'd put tired hands up against any trillium IPA i've had. Go to Tired Hands!

As many have mentioned, go to Tired Hands. IMO, get a pint of HopHands and then samplers of everything else on the taplist. Finish with a pint of whichever was your favorite. Then hit Monk's downtown and get some Hill Farmstead or whatever IPA they have on tap (often also have Russian River).

Pineal is always a solid regular, but thought Toy Dogs was OK - still better than nearly all store bought IPAs around the area, IMO.

Do yourself a favor and just buy multiple growlers of HopHands.

I have yet to buy a growler of Tired Hands beer. Is it now safe to do so?

    Cheers!

Tired Hands IPA's are amongst the best I've ever had. And I've had Tree House, Trillium, HF, Heady, etc. Shit is crazy.

Yeah, I never had an issue with a growler. I know some on here have claimed they've had exploding growlers, but I've probably had close to 40 growlers and have never had a problem - and I would definitely post on here if I did.

Yeah, given that you followed those threads so closely I think you will be ok. If you still have hesitation then it is in fact upon you to decide if that perilous risk is worthwhile.

I bought 5 a few weeks ago with no issue and 4 of them got shipped elsewhere and still had no issue. Enjoy

Half Acre GoneAway IPA is around, and that tastes very NE IPA to me.
