Aloha Going to be in Ellenville may/june. See suaraz, hudson valley brewing, drowned lands that pique my interest. There for a week doing touristy stuff and looking for a couple places to try. Any rec's are appreciated. Mahalo.
It's quite a trek to those places, but Suarez is my favorite in the area. If you like cask ale, there's an English expat in the Beacon area (which is also a trek) who makes English-inspired cask ale at a real micro level for a few places. Their stuff is off the radar from the BA crowd. The brewery name is Old Glenham and Draught Industries is a place that carries them. Locals also like that bar for it's Mexican food. (Full disclosure - I haven't been there since they started carrying Old Glenham). If you go to Beacon, Newburgh Brewing is on the west side of the river across from Beacon... in case you want to hit multiple places near each other. Their cream ale and brown ale can be seen as little cult items in our IPA land, but don't go there expecting anything like Suarez.
If you're crossing over the Hudson to the Suarez/HVB side, see if Obercreek works for you. Would more or less be on the way into Beacon. Some of the best IPA in the area and also some really good farmhouse/saison type stuff, and a nice outdoor farm area where they usually have live music and a food vendor. Beacon also has Industrial Arts, just really good stuff in a wide variety of styles, one of the most reliable breweries in the area. Pillow & Oat is also relatively new, mostly a lot of IPA but pretty solid.
You're gonna be pretty close to Arrowood Farms, I would make that a priority. Great beer and an even better space. Rough Cut is also close by you and solid. But if you're able to make the time, you have some of the best options in the country close enough by and you already named them. Suarez has world-class lagers and farmhouse ales and if you only go one place, that should be it. If you do go there, Vosburgh, Lasting Joy and Jordan Farmstead are all very close by and all have very solid beer and cool taprooms. Lasting Joy, especially, has argument for most gorgeous taproom there is. Like period. Hudson Valley is a must-hit. Nobody in the world makes sour IPAs better and they have very good lagers and mixed-ferm stuff to go with it. Super close by is Industrial Arts, whose beers are really terrific. Guy who runs that brewery is the guy who put East coast IPAs on the map in the 90s. Pillow & Oats is also in town and I've only been once but they seemed to do hazies really well. Drowned Lands is a stupid gorgeous taproom, huge taplist and they nail everything they do. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better spot on a warm, sunny day. Obercreek is fucking killer if you're that way at all. You're genuinely not going to find any place* in the Hudson Valley that doesn't make good beer. Even the lesser talked about/zero-hype spots do good work and/or have a really nice spot to enjoy a pint or two. *Two-Way Brewing in Beacon isn't good. I wouldn't bother with them. But that's the only one I can think of.
