A friend of my is up from Florida and our usual get together involves a trip up to Mahegan Sun. On the way would like to stop off for some lunch and good beer (don't mind going out of the way a bit), whats your thoughts on the best place to hit within 45 minutes of the casino.
You should hit up Willimantic Brewing - WilliBrew.. Its situated in an awesome old post office and they have good food and drink, its off rt. 2 which is the way you'd be coming from Hartford.

As most can tell, I'm a pretty staunch defender of Eli Cannon's. However, I think their food is pretty mediocre. I would go with Plan B in Glastonbury.
Ended up at Willimantic Brewing, had a decent lunch and a couple of good beers before heading to the casino. Unfortunately the Beer Selection that night at Bar Americain was not so good.
Never really had a lot of good luck with beer at the casino, the best place, in my opinion, was Big Bubba's BBQ. Heard not long ago that it closed.
That bums me out. I only go to the casino a couple times a year (haven't been since last August), but ya, theres usually three things or so worth getting.
You are right it closed a few months ago but a new place (BBQ) opened recently and doesn't look like much has changed. Wasn't a big fan of the food there anyhow.

It's ridiculous they keep getting closed without some explanation. Clearly there is some confusion about the rules of posting in this forum? The NEBCO thread is what I check most frequently, as it tends to be the CT beer thread in a sense. Long live the NEBCO superthread!!!
I wondered that too (why the NEBCO thread got locked). seems to be the thread runs afoul of this: Post general/all encompassing threads; example: "What's new in New Jersey?" or "The X brewery thread." They just turn into a mess.
