Hi everybody, I drive back and forth between RI and Long Island at least 2 or 3 times a month and I've been trying to time my drives so I can stop at NEBCO and pick up a bunch of beer, specifically Fuzzy Baby Ducks which I am dying to try. However, I have failed the last 3 times because they open up at times when rush hour on I-95 in CT starts to get real bad. That highway is the absolute worst. I'm usually passing by there around 130pm, about 2 hours before they open. Today I tried to time it again, and again wound up there about an hour early. I would have just waited, but my dog takes the trip with me quite often and didn't want to just sit there with him in the car. I did stop at Amity Wine and Spirit near the brewery because I heard they sold NEBCO beers in cans. I picked up 12 seahags and a few others products at that store. Good selection. However, I am really interested in acquiring Gandhi Bot. I've heard the beer is hard to find in stores now around CT. If there is no where in CT along the south shore that has it in cans, are there any restaurants or bars around that have NEBCO beers on tap and do growler fills? Will be heading back to RI on Tuesday morning. Thanks
Someone please correct me, but I am unfamiliar with the legality of non-breweries filling growlers in CT, and I've definitely never seen it. A few other comments: You will not get to try Fuzzy Baby Ducks just by stopping in NEBCO at a random time. It's infrequently brewed, and last time it was brewed, it coincided with the opening of their new space (on a Saturday), and there was a 3+ hour line at one point. Gandhi-Bot cans were just sent to all CT counties this week, so you may want to try looking at Amity again on your way back. When they have it, they get a LOT of it.
Retail stores in CT are not able to have growler stations. And bars that are not classified as brewpubs also cannot fill growlers. While places such as Willimantic Brewing are able to fill growlers. And it seems there is a grey area for bars that have house beers made for them such as The Ginger Man & they can fill growlers. With that being noted, OP, I would try Coastal in Branford, which is just off I-95.
I've seen it in a few Fairfield County stores recently, I also picked up a few 4-packs today at a store near my house.
