Does nebco have consistency issues? Just got three Hag, first one was delicious, fluffy head filled my 13oz tulip to the top. Second one was closer to 11oz, poured flat and was missing the tropical flavors from the first can. Left not knowing what to think. I have one more can to break the tie.
^^^ Not sure, but I bought a fresh six pack today and am really enjoying it! More so, maybe, than the SoS that I also picked up.
Nebco is actually pretty consistent about filling their cans pretty damn near the limit in my experience. I get foamovers in hags non-stop and seem to recall someone saying they do this on purpose to eliminate oxygen. I don't mind.
I've yet to see an underfilled can of sea hag. Then again, I'm not sure I could eyeball a 1 oz difference between different pours. Imo it's less consistency issues and more to do with people freaking out when Nebco is tweaking the recipe. The freak out over when they were apparently using biofine last year comes to mind.
My general experience with Sea Hag is that it spills out the top of the can as soon as you open it (and not a pressure issue, just always filled right to the top). Can't really recall ever having a Sea Hag where I didn't say "man that is filled right to the top".
I'm surprised it gets pretty mediocre reviews on here. I wouldn't put it at a 3.82 but perhaps more around 4-4.2 unless there are some mixed batches I am unaware of.
Exactly- I don't think I've ever opened a Hag where I didn't have to wipe some excess beer on my pants because it got all over my fingers from being so full.
It's because the recipe has changed a good deal since the early days. Initially it was more an English style IPA made with Fuggles, and even since the style change the recipe was still tweaked a fair bit depending on what hops they had available. Most of the lower ratings are from 2011 or earlier and most of the higher ones are from 2013 or later.
Even my casual beer-drinking friends have migrated to sea hag in the last year or so because it has been more consistent and the price at a lot of places (cafe nine, the outer space, etc.) can't be beat.
their latest batch in cans i think is the best, picked up 2 6 packs last week and already drank through them. On draft for growlers to me it tastes like a totally different beer in a good way.
