I'm going to be in Omaha and Lincoln from 5/25-5/30. Any suggestions on beer bars, beer stores and breweries to look up? Any advice would be much appreciated. Flame away.

    Stores
    Beertopia - Omaha
    The Still - Lincoln
    Morans - Lincoln
    Breweries
Nebraska Brewing Company has a restaurant/brewbub and a production facility/tap room at two different locations in the Omaha burbs. I assume that someone can expand on locations times etc.
Lucky Bucket in the Omaha burbs has a fun tour tap room. They also have a distillery
Infusion Brewing in Omaha is fun.
Zipline in Lincoln has a cool vibe tap room but it has limited hours so check their facebook page.
Modern Monks in Lincoln is good
Empyrean/Lazlos is a fun stop in Lincoln
    Bars
Crescent Moon/Huber House in Omaha is a great bar and next to Beertopia
Jakes in Lincoln and Omaha is good if you don't mind cigars
Longwells in Lincoln is worth checking out
Don't know what beers are not available in WA, but you might seek out all of the Nebraska Brewing Beers, Funkwurks and Zipline if you don't already have them.
This list could easily be expanded. Nebraska is improving as a beer state.

We don't get any Nebraska breweries in WA, actually. No Funkwerks, Ska, Odells, Founders either. I always stock up on Funkwerks when I'm there visiting my in-laws. Upstream's gin barrel saison is nice if there are bottles still hanging around.

And yeah, Benson is a fun area to hang out in.

@distantmantra I feel like I knew you had been to Nebraska, but we've never talked about it. I'm definitely getting as much Funkwerks as I can find. Allegedly Yia Yia's Pizza has BCBS on tap. Their website could be outta date though.

@cran852 Thanks for the suggestions. I was not aware of Longwells.

@BrettHead Thinking I need to hit up the Hy-vee in your link. I see Shelton Brothers product and that is always a good sign.

Stop on in at Beertopia and say hi if you have time. We are always down for a mini-beer-share!

i am fairly sure that yia yia's no longer has bourbon county on tap. however, they have a nice tap selection with some unique stuff, sometimes bottles will sit awhile there due to price, and their pizza is good. i've been hitting it up a lot lately as they've had la folie on tap for weeks and you can get it in ridiculous 32 oz mason jars.

oh and one place i will add to the list is dempseys burger pub as it is in the same general downtown location, as they sometimes get in some really nice stuff. as of last friday they had KBS on tap (the tapping was last wednesday). good burgers too.

I recently moved to Omaha. So far I've checked out Beertopia (awesome selection and very knowledgeable staff) and I picked up a growler of Infusion Brewing Company's Radial IPA (so far its excellent). I have to say that I'm really excited about the craft beer scene in Omaha from what I've seen. Next up will be Benson Brewery.

Let me ask a question of all the Nebraskans here on BA. First of all, I have to say that I'm originally from the great state of California and the first craft beer I ever tasted was Stone's IPA. Since that first pint of craft beer I've been a lover of IPAs, especially San Diego Pale Ales, and all I ever brew myself are extra hoppy IPAs.

Now for my question, what local Nebraska IPAs should be on my list to try? Also, what other local beers do you guys and gals recommend? I'm looking to branch out and experience some other fine craft beers (other than IPAs) and discover some fine local breweries.

    Thanks.

There are only a couple of really great IPAs from local breweries. Namely - Nebraska Brewing Co's IPA and its Romancing the Cone. Infusion's Radial IPA is ok. The others...meh.

As far as other beer styles/breweries: basically everything NBC makes is fantastic. Infusion is also fantastic. Zipline out of Lincoln is pretty great. Empyrean is ok. Benson Brewery, Borgata, and Lucky Bucket are meh. Farnham House should be opening up this week (at least that's what Phil told me the other day), and it'll be great. Storz and Blue Blood are TERRIBLE.

It seems to get mixed reactions, but I've always thought Upstream's IPA is really solid. They also just tapped a seasonal Rye IPA that's quite nice and has a bit of a west coast feel to it (probably mostly due to Citra presence). Other than that, I pretty much agree with phayte3000, although I wasn't as big on Romancing the Cone.

I don't go to Upstream enough to be up-to-date on their new tappings.

Also - Romancing the Cone is great if you get it fresh or on draft. Most of the bottles in stores have been sitting for awhile. Additionally - in their newest (as yet unreleased) batch they did something different with the oak and it tastes amazing. They told me what they did, but I'm not supposed to say yet...
