So I have a collection of about 20 various breweries and styles of glassware.... I have some money burning a hole in my pocket that isn't for beer or baby diapers and I want to pick up a couple new pieces of glass. Anyone have any recommendations?
Digging Spiegelau and Bell's new "perfect" wheat beer glass. That said, if you've really got money to spare, my advice is always to go visit a few breweries and snag their coolest glass. The value of that experience will more than make up for whatever value us BA's arbitrarily place upon it. CA breweries in particular make some kickass glasses. Where are you located?
I guess I'm just a collector at heart. I like to snag glassware based on style or design. Right now I really love the globe shaped wine glass a lot of breweries are using... So I have my eyes on a few. If they have a well designed logo or artwork on their glass, I am interested haha.
Whoops, forgot to hit reply on my first one. I'm in so cal . Travel up to the bay, Portland , and Seattle for work as well. So I have access to quite a bit. I typically do what you mentioned... If I cruise insomewhere and something catches my eye I will snag it. That is, as long as I know my wife won't kill me for doing so haha
Read thru this BA page and see if you get inspiration: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/101/glassware/
Thank you very much. I was going more for specific breweries or brew pubs. I have some of all of those listed styles, I just want some rad additions to the collection.
I'm surprised I didn't see New Belgium's annual Globe Glass special, but their globe glass is a nice one. My overall favorite, most used glass is the Dogfish Head Signature Glass, seen here: http://www.dogfish.com/store/under-20/dogfish-head-signature-glass.htm I have over 400 glasses (a ton of shaker pints, from when that was what was available at breweries), but in the past years, most special beers end up in this.
my favorites in my collection include my Sierra Nevada tulip, a local brewery's snifter (Device Brewing), Russian River Nonic, and Firestone Walker tasting snifter. I have about 20 glasses in all, but those are the ones I use on the reg. Lately I've preferred drinking from smaller glasses, somewhere between 8 and 12 oz pours. The Firestone Walker 10 oz Nonic is really nice and one I'd like to add to my collection. The two styles I'm lacking are a Teku and a nice brewery-branded wine glass like HFS
I recommend a teku... I got one a little over a year ago, and I honestly love drinking pretty much all beers from it! I got the Deschutes teku, but have my eyes on a couple others.
