    Hey everyone,

Enough is enough. It's time for me to buy my own growler. There are way too many good growler fill spots around me to not get one. The question is, which one? A preliminary search suggests that Kegworks makes a good 64 ounce one, though I've seen some quality concerns. I'm open to a glass one, though metal seems to have the obvious durability advantage. I have some leftover gift money from Christmas so I was planning on getting one from Amazon. Does anyone have any recommendations? I probably will share the beer I put in it sometimes, but most of the time it will be for myself. Is 64 oz too much?

size depends on how much you plan to drink and how fast. I prefer a 32oz or 1 liter size simply becasue i can drink the whole thing in 2 nights when its still plenty fresh. I dont like to drink more than 24 oz a night or let a growler sit for more than 2 days so its perfect for me. as far as which i would just get it from your local brewery. supports the brewery and itll have a logo so it looks cool

I can't imagine living in Oregon without a growler. Check Whole Foods, at least the one in Boise gives you the growler for free on either Tuesday or Wednesday with a fill.

^^^This. I have a shelf of standard 64oz glass growlers from breweries I've visited all over the country - practical and collectible! I do also have a 32oz HydroFlask though that I love for traveling around the state and want to keep the beer cold.

I enjoy having different sized growlers for different styles of beer/ purpose of the growler. Sometimes I want to bring home a BA beer, but 64 oz might be too much so a 32/40 oz is a perfect fit. Going to a party or friends house, 64 oz does the trick. What they look like and how fancy depend on your budget really. As long as it gets the beer from the brewery to my mouth is what matters most.

I'm really thinking about getting the uKeg pretty soon. It would be a badass way to bring some homebrew around to friends.

Honestly I have two 64 oz screw tops, a 32 oz screw top, and 2 720 hf swing tops. If I get a growler filled, I just need it to stay fresh until I drink it hours later. I very rarely get a growler of anything but an ipa. When I do get one filled, I plan on drinking it that day or the next. I think if you get a 64 and 32 you're fine to start out. I gotta say that one with the tap is pretty god damn sweet though haha.

I have about 11 64oz screw tops from various brewpubs. Works for me.

How cold does it stay? Say it's 90 degrees outside, you pick up a growler, head to the grocery store, leave it in there, and do some other errands for another 2 hours. In total about 5 hours in hot conditions.

I have a clean canteen for other uses but I'm sure the same applies.

Wherever I am, I just tend to throw my growler in the freezer for 20 minutes and get it back up to temp, and then consume.. A true hydroflask hasn't come across my mind just yet. Although a local brewery did just get some stamped with their logo.

The biggest test I can remember putting it through was filling it, heading home, leaving it on the counter for an hour, and then going to a cookout. Left it sit outside at the cookout (in the shade), which was in the middle of summer, so I'd guess it was probably in the 85 degree range outside. Drank over the course of a couple hours and it was just starting to creep a bit over drinking temp by the time I poured the last beer out of it.

I'm not sure how it would fare in the scenario you described. I think the reason mine started to warm a bit was from the opening to pour beer letting some hot air in from the outside with each pour.

I remember when I was thinking about which to purchase. Just planned on having one or two and now I have a ridiculous amount. No idea hot it happened lol. But to start off, you should definitely have a 32 swing top and a 64 screw cap. The swing top is mice cause if you plan to drink it alone, it's pretty easy. But you'll need the 64 screw cause some taps can't fill the smaller opening of the 32. Furthermore, if you're lucky enough to get yours counter pressured, you'll need the screw cap.

Awesome! I think I know what I'm looking for now. As luck would have it, a growler shop down the road is running a deal where you buy a fill and get a free 64 oz growler to put it in. It's a standard screw top one, so I think I'm gonna pick up a glass swing top growler and then probably a smaller hydroflask or something similar.
