    Thanks you all for your inputs. Really appreciate your insight.

    Is the canned puree not roasted a bit during the processing? Sure it could be done at home a bit better to your preference. And I like that NB pointed out to use canned pumpkin with no added ingredients.

    When I do partial mash brewing I do the mash BIAB in my brew pot. I calculate my strike water temperature to hit about 153 when I add the grain. I shut off the burner and put the grain bag into the pot. After I verify the temperature I wrap the pot with old thick towels and monitor the temp. If I have to add heat I pull the grain bag off the bottom of the pot and tie it off on a handle. I of course remove the towels prior to firing up the burner. No mash tun required.
