So we agreed on a trade 2:2 and a day for both of us to ship out. My box got there fine but it had been 2 weeks since I had seen his so I looked into it was told that the package was "irretrievably lost". I told my partner this and he offer to send me something different to replace them which I thought was gracious. I offered to pay shipping costs multiple times and asked if there was anything I could do to help. I finally got his 2nd box today but one of the beers is not the one he offered. Furthermore, one of the bottles was partially open and had leaked. Whether it was due to subpar packing is debatable. When I reach out to tell him this he says that he was too busy and had his assistant pack and send the box.

I simply wanted to get some feedback from the community on this situation.

When the shipper sends a box that doesn't arrive successfully, it is totally on them to send another box with same beers or if that is not possible beers that you agree on. You shouldn't have to pay shipping either. Given he shipped you a different beer and one leaked, he still hasn't upheld his end of the deal.

Now of course there is always flexibility if the receiver wants to let sender off the hook or make it easier on them, but that is for you to decide.

I guess I was giving them the benefit here since it seemed like the first box was simply lost by the post office and wasn't actually their fault.

Doesn’t matter, still on them, that is the generally accepted rule.

Out of curiosity what were the beers you were supposed to get and what are the beers you did receive?

Until the box is safely inside your home the sender is responsible. Whether the fault is the shipping company or the person who packed the box, a replacement should be offered and sent. So, you should receive another replacement box from him.

Good on you for offering to help with shipping. It isn’t necessary, but says something about you as a trader.

Post the bottles you wereto receive in the original trade and I’m sure someone reading this will help out if they have them.

What do you mean when you say you were told that the package was irretrievably lost? Told by who? Did the trader give you tracking information for the original package? If so, then the tracking status should show something about the package being lost. If the trader is merely telling you it was lost, then you can't be sure the box was ever shipped in the first place. In any case, as others have said, you'd still be owed an identical (or comparable) replacement box, and you shouldn't be on the hook to pay for any additional shipping costs.

Sounds like he should replace the replacement box

The original lost box was for a Bottle Logic stout but the sender didn't have an extra one so they offered a different stout. I received a 3rd different Bottle Logic stout instead of the one that was offered.

I made a post looking for the original bottle I had wanted but didn't have much in the way of trade ammo so it was just longshot

I was told it was irretrievably lost after filing a missing package case with USPS. The sender did give me a tracking number but the tracking info just stopped updating one day which lead me to looking into it further.

Can you PM me to tell me who the other trader is and what beer you were looking for? I have guesses about both, based on your recent posts and trade feedback. If I'm right, there's a thread you should read that should help you get this beer from this trader. And if I'm wrong, I still want to know who the trader is so I avoid dealing with that person.

@Jag237 this other guy sucks and should have made it right. I have a Hydra (assuming that was the one you really wanted) coming to me. My SoCal buddy is holding it for me, so might be awhile to actually have it in hand. However, when I do, it’s yours for some Virginia fresh hops, if that works for you?

I don’t love coconut, so I was probably going to Beer It Forward with the Hydra anyways.

Let me know and we can work it out.

If you’re right, I can only imagine the response from this person. I did a quick look off of your post.

Sorry OP. Reading all this you’ve been beyond patient and gracious. Offering all the shipping is beyond unnecessary. This person owes you an explanation and for certain a replacement box.

Sorry. I wasn’t clear. I meant tell us the bottles you were supposed to receive in the original box, and I’m sure someone reading with access will make certain you get them. (Looks like some good souls already have!)

I want to know what were the original bottles and what did your trader offer in place of those bottles. Without knowing exactly what the other guy said it’s hard to determine what needs to happen. I mean if he replaced the lost bottles with something more desirable to you then props to your trade partner but if it was something you obviously weren’t interested in that’s a problem.

    Man,
I think that is the problem. He said the other person sent him another box, but the bottle he said he was sending to replace the “lost” box was not that bottle it was supposed to be.

Again, if I’m connecting the dots right and the beer is a very recent BL stout release, with the person I’m thinking it is, and the way the talked about how many of this bottle he got and how plentiful it was, replacing it should NOT have been an issue.

Purely speculation on my part, but let’s see how it plays out. If it is correct, then what I’ve long thought about this person solidifies, he sucks.

The OP wrote to me and the other trader is indeed the person you and I suspected it to be. As you said, he has bragged about how he has "lots of extras" of the BL bottle in question. So he should absolutely send the OP a replacement bottle.

I don't want to out the other trader here, because that seems like OP's call to make. But many of us know who it is and agree that he sucks. He's actually the only person I have blocked on BA. But occasionally I read his comments anyway just to see how inane they are, and they never disappoint in that regard.
