    Hey all,

    I'm about to brew my tenth batch of All-grain and really want to start working on my house pale ale recipe but would like to do a few clones first. How do you guys typically approach clones when there is little information on the beer? I've taken a shot at the recipe by using the brewers notes on Ballast point website that only tells me IBU's, ABV, marris otter malt, carapils malt, mosaic hops, and calypso hops. No information was given around how much malt, mash temp, hop amounts, etc. Let me know what you think, (all constructive feedback is welcome, especially from any Ballast point insiders/close friends).

    Grunion Clone
    American Pale Ale
    All Grain
    5.5 Gallons
    OG = 1.055
    FG = 1.013
    5.5 % (Exact, cannot change)
    SRM = 5.7 (May need to change)
    IBU = 35 (Exact, cannot change)

    Efficiency Target = 70%

    10.5 # Marris Otter (89.4%) (Weights may need to be adjusted but Marris Otter is the main grain used)
    1.25 # CaraPils (10.6%) (Same as Marris Otter)

    1 oz Citra - 15 minutes - 17 IBU's
    .5 oz Calypso - 15 minutes - 9 IBU's
    .5 oz Mosaic - 15 minutes - 9 IBU's
    .5 oz Calypso - Whirlpool
    .5 oz Mosaic - Whirlpool
    1 oz Calypso - Dry Hop @ 7 days
    1 oz Mosaic - Dry Hop @ 7 days

    1 vial - White Labs, WLP001 California Ale yeast (Have it on good authority that this is what Ballast Point uses for Grunion).

    No water additions (still learning)

    Mash @152 for 60 minutes (Subject to change)
    60 minutes Boil
    Ferment at 68-70 degrees F.

    That's a beautiful beer and worth cloning...6 packs are priced just like Sculpin ($14-15)...$12/growler here

    It was amazing, extremely close to Grunion but definitely missing something. I had to use Optic malt instead of MO and I used Galena instead of Calypso because the homebrew shop was all out. Will be tinkering this recipe but the hop flavor and mouthfeel is spot on. All my friends crushed this keg
