hi I bake with beer I have this amazing cupcake recipe that I use a local stout form relic brewery in Connecticut in the batter but unfortunately they are not producing it till winter. It’s got notes of chocolate expresso cherry and a slight Smokey flavor and pairs well with my raspberry in my chocolate raspberry stout cupcakes.

Name of the stout I was using was black dawn
I could go to the store and get some bottles of Guiness but Its for my cousins bridal shower and I’m trying to find something craft possibly local that has similar notes so I can do some testing before hand to see what would work with my cupcakes.

There's a liquor store in Hamden, Mt. Carmel, that has Relic's Black Dawn available in cans (Call them to double check).

Two Roads Espressway stout is available at some liquor stores, made with cold brew coffee. Other locals you may find at stores: Thimble Island Stout and Outer Light Libation Propaganda Coffee Stout.

For non-CT beers, Maine Mean Old Tom, Lagunitas Cappucino Stout, or Bell's Brewery Kalamazoo stout might work.

But none of these have cherry or smoky flavor notes. Your best bet might be to visit a liquor store that stocks a lot of variety and ask a clerk for help in selecting the right stout.

Mean Old Tom from Maine Beer Co. may meet your needs. It would add vanilla to the flavor though.

I would say Void from Counter Weight, but I think you may have availability issues similar to Black Dawn.

Espressway from Two Roads is local craft that would be similar.

Thimble Island Coffee Stout also local and similar flavors.

Coffee Milk Stout from Black Hog also a local brew.

Lots of options in CT. May as well go to a good package store, buy a few of these options and have a cupcake and beer tasting party to test out the recipes. I'll be expecting my invite.
