I have a friend who is coming home to MA in a few weeks. He currently lives in Wisconsin and wants to bring back some brews not distributed in MA, so far I've told him Two Hearted, but can't really think of anything else. What would you recommend I ask him to try and bring back?

Tell your friend to prepare to spend a lot of money based on the forthcoming recommendations.

Anything by Bell's (except their porter) you can't go wrong.

My buddy just came back from WI. ask him to bring you a 750 of New Glarus Serendipity. I was blown away by it.

A lot of year round 3 floyds can be found in WI. GumballHead, AlphaKing... both I tried and both were great. Try to get them

Most have already been mentioned, but I'll be more specific on the New Glarus option:

He won't find Pipeworks in WI. Lakefront and Ale Asylum have a couple solid offerings.

    What part of the state?

    Here's the breweries I wouldn't pass on:
    New Glarus
    Founders
    Bell's
    FFF
    Central Waters
    Great Lakes
    Oskar Blues
    Tyranena
    Lake Louie (depending on location)

Here's some specialty beers from breweries that I would grab:
New Glarus: Serendipity and Raspberry Tart (both easily available statewide $10/bottle) Thumbprint IIPA ($10/ 4 pack)
Central Waters: Any of Bourbon Barrel Stout, Y2K Barleywine, Bourbon Barrel Barleywine, or Peruvian Morning (wide range here $10-14/4 pack)
FFF: Specialty beers have started appearing in my part of the state, but don't last long. Buy what you can find. Behemoth has shown up in bottles and Dreadnaught and Arctic Panzer Wolf have been on tap.
Founders: The usuals can be accessed at most quality liquor stores. Get the 6 packs of Red's Rye before they change the packaging.
Oskar Blues: Saw Ten Fidy for the first time this year in La Crosse last week ($13-16/4 pack)
Bell's: Hopslam showed up last month and has disappeared already in my area. Might be difficult finding more.

If you can find a good shop that sells plenty of singles you might save some cash instead of buying sixers of each beer. New Glarus offers a mixed 12 pack that is quite popular with most people new to the brewery.

Other breweries in the state you might be interested in:
    Rogue
    North Coast
    Lagunitas
    The Bruery
    Dark Horse

Good luck trimming your list down.

Hmmmm......I would say ALL WI breweries, but to name my favs.......

    New Glarus
    Capital Brewery
    Ale Asylum
    Central Waters
    Lakefront
    Tyranena
    Great Dane
    Milwaukee Brewing Co.

    As far as WI distro.....

    Bells
    FFF
    Founders
    Great Lakes

Be prepared to spend a LOT of cash on great beer.

    My recommendations are:
    1. Lakefront Riverwest Stein Amber Ale
    2. Capital Blonde Doppelbock
    3. Gray's Busted Knuckle
    4. Gray's Oatmeal Stout
    5. O'so Dank Imperial Red Ale
    6. Lake Louie **** Rock Cream Ale
    7. New Glarus Spotted Cow (I HATE this beer, but everyone else seems to like it)

A lot will depend on the type of beers he likes...as another thread alluded to, we tend to do lagers very well (and do not do well with porters).

Where does he live in Wisconsin? We could recommend a bottle shop or store that will (hopefully) make it easy for him to bring you a variety of these to you.
