Hello everyone! My dad's 50th birthday is later this month and I really want to get him some new beers to try. I don't know a lot about beer, aside from the one type of beer I like (Belgian Lambic), so I'm relying on you knowledgeable people to help me out! Okay, so a little about my dad's tastes... He loves hoppy beers. The hoppier the better. He drinks a lot of IPAs, Double IPAs, and Imperial Stouts as well as the occasional lager or porter. Not to name names, but I know a few of his favorites are Arrogant Bastard, Heady Topper, Pliney the Elder, Lunch, and Narwhal. I would really appreciate if you guys could recommend some beers or some new styles he might like. I have absolutely no idea if any of this information helps, so if not let me know and I'll try to get more details. Thank you in advance!
That's plenty of info- and he seems to know his stuff! Maybe see if you can get some Evil Twin stouts- they are very rich and decadent (especially if Aun Mas Cafe Jesus is still available), yet crazy expensive. It might be the kind of thing he wouldn't buy for himself but would absolutely love as a gift.
Westbrook One Claw is a Rye Pale Ale. It's still got some hop finish but will be a little bit different than what he's used to. The Evil Twin suggestion is great if you can find it (luckily I found a stash of the above mentioned beer) and its wonderful. Maybe try a Saison or two.
